All These SHTF/Survival Scenarios Lately.

I think it's a reflection of the generally pessimistic mood among many Americans. Especially the ones that work and produce and raised their kids to do the same.

I don't know that things will get as bad as some predict, but I think it's prudent to take some precautions, just in case.

Part of that is also reflected in the increase in guns sales and applications for concealed carry. One of my neighbors knows I have guns and shoot. He doesn't, but he has mentioned on more than one occasion that he feels more safe because he knows I'm armed.

I think that the pendulum will start to swing back at some point. I just hope I'm around to see it.

Truth is, these s cenarios happen more frequently than most realize. Look at the Midwest during tornado season. Look at the south and east coasts during hurricane season. People deal with disasters well. The roving horde scenario is pretty much fiction, though gangs may appear and try to have their way, they will most certainly be in the minority. IMHO everyone needs to be prepared for natural disaster, as they are far more likely than socioeconomic breakdown. An if society disappears, it will come back. And I think its as important to be prepared to reform society as it is to be prepared for the short term breakdown.

This has been edited so as not to offend anyone but if you wish to use it elsewhere then substitute your choices of people or places wherever you want.

08 October 2012 Somewhere just Off the New Jersey coast...

A patrolling US Coast Guard ship stops four Men in a row boat, rowing towards shore...

The captain gets on the loud hailer and shouts "Ahoy, small craft, where are you heading?"

One of the Men stands up and shouts,
"We're invading the United States!"

The crew of the Coast Guard ship all start laughing and when the captain finally gains his composure, he gets back on the loud hailer and says "Just the four of you?"

The Man stands up again and shouts, "No, we're the last four- the rest are already there!"

I know this one and the one about the Post Turtle well. I wanted to post both about 3 months ago but didnt since I didnt know what upper management might say?

...I could go on, but I'll end this here. I'm not out to tick anyone off or alienate anyones beliefs. I am just pointing out logic and something to take into account. The only place anyone could truly ride out a SHTF scenario is on Moonbase Alpha...and it doesn't exist. It's a roll of the dice. To me, it is like the Battle Of The Alamo: you keep your faith and keep up the fight until the end.

You make some very good points.

I think the real lesson of all these scenarios is that we should do all we can, to the extent that's possible, to ensure they never happen.

Some things, of course, such as a natural disaster, would be beyond our control, but a lot of the SHTF scenarios we fear can be prevented by voting intelligently, and electing true leaders, rather than hacks who seek to gain power by dividing us.

One rumor is the Taliban is already here they crossed our borders along with donkeys packing ak 47's with ammo and supplies. We could be in trouble. There in sleeper cells around our nation. It was on the news a few times...

I don't know about donkeys hauling ammo, but you would have to be extremely naïve to think our adversaries haven't got people planted here. No way do I think that only illegal fruit pickers have crossed our porous southern border...

We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

Winston Churchill...now THAT was a leader! :)

The 'roving hoard scenario' is just a natural disaster away.

In February of 1979, the mid-Atlantic was hit by a major snowstorm, to this day known as The Presidents Day Storm. In the overnight hours of Sunday the 18th, two feet of snow buried Baltimore, Washington D.C., and other cities in the region. Drifts were five and six feet high, burying cars completely.

Around noon, the locals news broadcasts reported that the Baltimore Police Department was immobilized, with officers at their stations, unable to patrol the city or respond to calls. Before the news broadcasts ended, the looting started.

Liquor stores, furniture and appliance stores, grocery stores...all were hit by mobs of looters taking advantage of the fact that the police were out of service. Before the day was out, the National Guard had been mobilized to come into the city in order to restore order and protect private property.

There are a sizeable number of people in our society -- more than we would like to think about -- whose criminal impulses are held in check only by fear of the police. Disable law enforcement, and almost anything can happen... :(

REDAWN they told the story how to invade the USA. It's sad but true.

On the spam website they say SPAM will last but it depends on how it's stored. Mine is in a cool dry place sleeping near my powdered eggs and powdered butter milk. Right near my freshly ground stash of corn meal.
If we have to survive we better have good eats.

There is also value in storing hard red wheat in an oxygen free container........we have some stuff, too, probably a couple months worth right now. Need to renew that, and get back up to 6 months worth for us and the grandkids......

Don't forget the wine and whisky. I have those extra large sleeping bags that can sleep three if need be.
