Alliant Powder Pro 300-MP in 9mm

This power has been around for a long time. I have an S&W .357 Mod. 13-2, and a (cough cough) Ruger Blackhawk that the powder will work well in. But was wondering if there have been any loads developed for a 9mm. I have been reloading by the book for many years. Blindly following loads created by manufacturers. Now I'm looking outside the box to see if anyone has used this powder in any 9mm applications.

I got a killer deal on 10 pounds, and would like to burn it in my 9mm 3-gun program. Any help, in recipe development, would be appreciated.

Alliant doesn't list any recipes for 9mm, probably for a good reason. Where it shines is magnum loads, usually producing highest velocities.

Seems to me it's too slow for 9mm. That tiny case just doesn't hold much.

Try something closer to AA#7, which was pretty much designed for full power 9mm.

IMO and Alliant's opinion 300-MP is not suitable for the 9mm. Like said above, the 9mm case is small and probably won't hold enough powder to produce a proper load. It is extremely similar to W296/H-110.

Even Blue Dot is almost too slow for the little 9mm case.

I would think, at BEST............
that slow powder would give you a standard or even slower target speed loading, that you would have to check for squib's !!

Stay with the 357 cases............

I've only heard of duplex (mix of powders) loads in rifles. I would stay away from it.

Not a common practice at all and dangerous. Need a medium powder, buy it.

That's a good way to trash a perfectly good gun, IMO. A buddy of mine from years on back had a Dad that played the duplex powder charge game in a Super Blackhawk until he blew it up. Luckily he didn't hurt himself or anyone else.

On another note, since you got 10 lbs of 300MP to burn up, it sounds like the perfect alibi you need to buy a 44 Mag to burn it in along with your 357 gun.

Yikes!!! That's the craziest thing Ive ever heard of. Sounds incredibly dangerous!

I do duplex loads all the time................

but it is with steel pellets ........... not powder.

A 9mm is not a 357 sig . Just buy a bottle of powder , medium burn like Unique , Universal or even a bit slower , Autocomp- Longshot etc . If just punching holes in paper , 231 or even titegroup works well . Accurate #9 will not work , period ! Duplexing powders ? Good way to blow up your gun , or even worse sustain major injuries to your hands , face etc . I advise that you reload / shoot safe . Use a current reloading manual . Regards, Paul

Yes, never in handguns and only with black powder rifle powders.

Thank you all for your responses and advice. I'll try reloading the 357 and see if I like it. Otherwise I'll try to sell it.
