Made the trip, well 30 miles each way, to see what's up. Doc wanted parts for his Ruger pistol but I told him they are in the original box in his closet (they were). Prices were better than the recent past, MagTech 9mm ball $259/1k OTD if'n you pay cash. Primers are still $.10/each, powder around $350/8lb for the popular stuff. .22lr from $.10rd al the way to $.45 for the Stingers. There were 3 "gun moments" for me:
1) Iver Johnson .45 that looked exactly like a Gold Cup 2 tone. The slide had some message milled off both sides, looked bad but wouldn't affect performance, $425 OTD. When I went back it was gone.
2) S&W 629-2 or 3, 8 3/8 bbl in very nice shape marked down to $1199 from $1450. He'd let it go for $1100 cash, naturally I had a maybe a hunded less in pocket. Don't need another anyway.
3) S&W Model 66-2, 6" in nice shape w/original "speedloader cutout" target grips. A guy was doing "the function check" and I watched for him to put it down on the box marked $449. Only it belonged on the box marked $879 and the vendor said $800 was "hard bottom price."
Doc's buddy "the Flight Instructor" bought lunch along with half a dozen toy guns for his grandson, what a hoot. Future 2nd Amd kid for sure.
Money was changing hands often and most we saw was green. The gunshow is still a cash friendly business. Funny how in 20 years we have gone from "No cameras of any kind" to wall to wall "Smile you are on camera" as a response to rampant theft. Oh well, life is still good. Joe
