super bad hit on one & it bent the wheel on my 07 pontiac gp . all my original wheels on this car are pretty much like new .

which way is the best to go ? a good replacement wheel or straightening of the damaged wheel ? have heard that fixing the damaged one is possible ( but i also know aluminum can crack ! ) 1s it true that some of the replacement windshield glass replacement places can work on wheels .. ?
found a oem replacement wheel on line for $155 shipped . original wheel but has been worked on & refinished ... cleaned/buffed ? , & it has a garuntee .
am leaning toward that deal .
what do you think ? thanks

There are places that will straighten, re-weld, true and refinish wheels, but cost wise it's rarely cost-effective for something you can probably find readily on the salvage market. Mostly those services are for custom rims or the really expensive factory ones that aren't very common on the used/salvage market.

Check car-part.com for salvage listings. You should be able to find one on there for reasonable.

In N.W. indiana i have a machinist friend that will repair alum .cast wheels 'Lots of big wheels with low profile tires and pot holes don't go good together . He also welds up & restores Offenhauser indy. race engines. PM me if you are in NW indiana

I wouldn't go with a repaired wheel. Check your local tire and wheel shops because they often have take offs from people installing custom rims. Also check auto salvage/junk yards local and online. Price new and used so you know what is a good or bad deal. I bought a good used rim at a tire store for less than half price of a new one for my Ford Ranger.

I have a crack on inside of rim at bead area on my Impala. About once a year I have to replace the epoxy in the crack. New rim I found online for $95 which is actually cheaper than what the salvage yards want for a used one.

I had a Corvette rim repaired because it leaked air at a spot on the rim bead. After repair it still had the air leak. A badly damaged aluminum rim IMO is better off sold for scrap than try and repair it.

A while back ago I purchased a couple of wheels at a scrapyard, they sent me too a warehouse to pick them up. The guy took two boxes off the shelf unwrapped the wheels and put their paint park on the inside of wheels and sent me on my way. Not everything in a scrapyard is used, some is overproduction runs.

Be patient and keep watching on eBay.
You can find a nos, or like new replacement in your price range. I vote no repair on wheel
