Jorge,
The value set you describe, the same one you attribute to yourself, and seek out in others, NEVER goes out of style, it just, from time-to-time, falls out of favor and usage.
As you aptly describe, American history, from the beginning, has had its ups and downs. History is being made every day, and political and societal mores shift according to prevailing attitudes, both positive and negative.
However 'bad' things may seem at present, just wait a bit and things will change, they always do. They may change for the worse, or the better, but they WILL change. A man such as yourself, whose positive values are deep-rooted, will always prosper in the midst of such change. Disagreeable times may make it seem like society at large has no appreciation for folks like you, but appreciation and real need don't always converge at the same point. American society, however it evolves, will ALWAYS find a place for folks with well-grounded values.
I imagine that most of the folks here on the S&W Board, myself included, would consider themselves closer to having your outlook than anything on the 'greed' & 'what's in it for me' side of the equation.
The challenge, or opportunity, for folks like us will be whether the desire or absolute need for us 'old thinkers' is again valued in our society, or if it is thrust upon that same society out of forced necessity.
Either way, we are best suited for any outcome the future may bring. Hold fast to your values!
