I want a MAC 10. You know, the "machine pistol" so popular in the 70s. Seen in a bunch of movies, carried by bad guys and good guys alike.

Actually, the version I want is the current-production closed-bolt semi-automatic carbine. Manufactured by MasterPiece Arms, right here in Georgia.

I have never been into the AR scene. I always preferred pistol caliber lever action carbines and shotguns for fun/defensive weapons. However, I now have arthritis so bad in my right hand that just throwing the lever on my Marlins, Winchesters, and Rossis can be downright excruciating. It just isn't fun, and a 50 round session leaves me hurting.

I still want something to "slang lead," though. I want it for fun, and frankly, for defensive purposes.

Here's my reasoning. Forty-five ACP is a proven, effective round within its range limits. I figure fifty yards. I have probably 5000-plus rounds of factory loaded ammo on hand, and dies, powder, and primers to load a bunch more. The MAC style guns have a reputation for being crude but reliable. They don't cost as much as an AR.

I don't deny that the "cool" factor also comes into play here.;)

This is a decision that only you can make. individual tastes, circumstance and opinions are what make the gun world so diverse in product selection.
You will never know until you try it

Had a chance to shoot a 380 that a retired ATF agent out of Atlanta had. It was a blast so to speak. The problem I see is the even with 5000 rounds on hand that will not last once you get out and start tearing up real estate with it. Have fun if you do decide to get one.

Off topic a bit.........isn't the Mac-10 a blowback design????

Have you looked at the Beretta Storm....... available in 9,40 and 45 with up to 30 rd. factory mags in 9mm (10,15,17,18,20 and 30 factory and/or mecgar)

Reason I mention it.. with your arthritis ... you can have charging handles on both sides........ butt to chest and use two hands to pull back the bolt

He said he wants a semi version. A semi 45 is no more ammo-wasteful than a semi 223. One round per each trigger pull.

And I agree. That little MAC-11 380 is a trip. :D

a guy I knew in Colorado had the full auto mac-10. he brought it to the range one morning with a couple of 5 lb coffee cans of ammo. I think we ran out of ammo in 45 minutes. darn it was fun

used to have a mac-10 full tilt that was my car gun. tore up cars like you wouldn't believe.

You might want to listen to BAM BAM. I've owned the MAC 10 in full auto and semi, and the Beretta Storm in 40 S&W. The Beretta was a lot more fun and practical for me. With a red dot sight it was deadly for a lot farther than the Mac in any mode. The Beretta is so much easier to manipulate. Think about it.

I always wanted a full auto Thompson 1927 Chicago typewriter. A ak47
Pistol too.

Ive fired a semiauto M11. Chambered in 9MM... It was alot of fun to shoot.

It was made by Cobray, based in Atlanta and no longer in business. You can find them at local gun shops from time to time....

They have all the aesthetics and handling characteristics of a cordless drill. If you can get past that, they will put a projectile downrange just as well as any other handgun.

If you already own a 1911 or Gluck, you might give the MechTech Carbine Conversion Unit a try.
I got the chance to give one of the earlier versions a good working out about 12 years ago and was very impressed with it. Light weight, compact and surprisingly accurate out to 100 yards.
