To go back into competetion shooting at my age???

What am I thinking lol...
But, I guess next Saturday, I will find out for sure. I last shot CAS back in the 1990's and PPC during its heyday in the 1970's and did very well.

I even did a couple of years of fast draw during my CAS days. I wasn't Thell Reed but pretty good all things considered.

My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, but I shoot alot on my own 50 yard combat range I built two years ago. So I went and joined IDPA, got all my stuff in the mail yesterday.

And then I found out I am a "Senior" competitor... how can that be????

I will be shooting SSR(stock service revolver) with a 10-6 out of my collection which has been a training gun and all around utility piece. Great trigger and good timing and lock up.

I guess it may be a race for last place..

Thell Reed, you showing your age all right. Haven't heard anybody speak of him in a while. His gun handling and shooting was simply amazing.
Gary...senior also

I guess it may be a race for last place.....not exactly.....that's MY rightful place.....

although I just got cataract surgery q few months ago I'm still at disadvantage.....somebody snuck in and removed my reliable old lumps of fuzz and replace them with some kind of sharp edged metal thingie on the end of the barrel....trying to figure out what to do about it......

I'm right there with ya. My last match was small bore rifle silhouette back in1990!
I just joined IDPA, too. I'll have to check on the senior class. Senior + SSR division may add up to lots of wins, since there probably won't be too much competition!

I'm gearing up and just ordered the shooting bi-focals. A bit frustrating, since my eye sight was legendary among family & friends.

Last piece I need is the "shoot me first" vest. Any suggestions? I'd like to find something that would double for sporting clays. I figure that's not too far out of the realm of reality. A match I watched featured a duck blind stage. Sitting in the blind, the shooter chucked his scatter-gun before drawing.:-).
Oh well, it's all about fun for me.

And there's more. When you get to 65 you graduate from the Senior category to the Distinguished Senior category

For a vest, I recommend the 5.11 TacLite vest, it really makes getting to your holster and ammo carrier much easier.

The "Shoot Me First" vest...lmao. I like that. And it's true.:D

Seeing that the weather is still pretty cold, i will use a fleece vest for my first match.

Warmer weather should be a bit more of a challenge with lighter clothing and concealment. Maybe that extra large Hawaiian shirt I have hanging up in the closet...

My definition of "senior" is somebody who is smart enough and has enough common sense to survive in this world long enough to earn gray hair.
You a senior...say it loud and say it proud. I respect gray hair.
You are ready...go show em how it's done!

Gary

I might venture a guess - 1st place for the division.
Just how many revolvers do you think are being shot in IDPA?

Have fun!

I'd say if you have shot PPC and know who Thell Reed is, I would guess this isn't your first rodeo and you're probably good to go. And with a wheel gun ,that's even better.

Might not have the eye sight or the speed of the youngin's.

But, some old guy , I think his name was Cooper, use to say, ' fast is fine, but accuracy is final.'

Good Luck & Have Fun ,,

I shoot IDPA at 2 clubs here in Iowa. Nobody shoots SSR unless I do....so I always win SSR. You probably will to.

Have fun!!

I appreciate everyones support, thank you.

I will be sure to post my first match results here after the 8th.

Just go have a blast and smile all day long.....everyone will wonder what it is you are up to anyway!!

I am not very speedy so I decided to be VERY accurate and just love SSR! RO's get weary calling my targets...down zero or Alpha Alpha over and over again.

Same here!
BTW, I can't take credit for the "shoot me first vest". I read it somewhere while researching equipment.

sometimes in Steel Challenge there will be only 1 or 2 revolvers out of 40-50 or more shooters.....

However, in ICORE there are 100% revolvers.....somehow....

but our ICORE group is usually under 25 each match....but sometimes up to 60 or more.

Finally our local club allows 22LR for ICORE.....and that is usually me & one other guy. We always seem to have the biggest grins .

@BaaBaa - Wow.

My club shoots average over 50 shooters. We have more 10mm shooters than revo's. I have even seen months where we have more FN 5.7 shooters (and that isn't an IPDA legal gun)

Take a look at the Deluth Trading "Workmans Vest". Get them in Tall. I have 2 of them, and wear them all the time. I have a Big Chief Pencil (My First Pencil) and a pen in the pencil pockets, and a Project calculator in the cel phone pocket. The "My First Pencil is a best kept secret for a carpenters pencil. The lead does not break as bad as the flat pencils".
Do not let the word mesh or vented scare you off. It is not see through, and will be legal for IDPA.

If you want to be up town take a look at the Armodillo Concealment Vest.

You will be styling in one of those.

Nothing wrong with being a Senior. I still have 3 years to go for ICORE Super Senior. You can have a Great Time being Slow and Old.
