Has anyone had any trouble with getting bit by Amazon hackers? I made an $18.00 purchase for the first time in years this past week. Yesterday a machine with a female British accent left a message about two orders made on my acct. and to call a number if it was not my purchase so they could stop the order. (Yeah, I live in PA and it was ordered in OHIO, what do you think? I was on the phone for at least three hours. All my card accounts didn't have any charges, so I'm cool on my end. And don't get me started on Apple customer service!!!

No problems here. The timing could just be coincidence. I would log into my amazon account and check my order history before giving out any information. It could have been a phishing attack, trying to get your account info.

I don’t answer unknown callers.
But - Recently have gotten several emails concerning my Amazon account.
It’s been locked, credit cards have been refused, account termination straight ahead, etc.
when you look at the expanded email sender display, obviously it’s not from Amazon.

A similar thing happened to me about a week ago. I had gotten a call, that I screened and didn't answer, where the caller said that she wanted to verify the charge of $840 for an iPhone that was just purchased via my Amazon account. I ignored her and checked my account and there was no activity, so I figured it was a scam.
One has to be very careful these days with all of these spam calls and phishing attempts.

I've received similar calls, I just don't answer. We rarely buy anything on Amazon.

This sounds highly suspicious to me...whenever I've made a purchase that either my bank or the merchant finds suspicious, the contact from them is by email or text.

I trust you didn't give any card information to the person who called you?

I agree...it sounds exactly like a phishing attack.

These thieves are clever. Back in June, I responded to a Facebook ad by LLBean, and ordered $86 worth of merchandise. It was my bank that caught the scam: they sent me a text message alert and an email warning me that the transaction was suspect.

I called LLBean, and they confirmed that pages of their website had been copied and were being used by thieves. I notified my bank, and they stopped the transaction, but because I had given the thieves my debit card number, my bank had to cancel it and issue me a new one.

“Never” answering unknown phone numbers goes a long way in avoiding these scams.

I've had a couple of "security alert" e-mails from Amazon Germany (amazon.de) - in German - in the last few weeks. Just ignored them as I've never bought anything from Amazon there. I looked at the headers and they did look legit, though.

I often use a VPN and sometimes (but not consistntly) this throws up alerts from Gmail as they don't recognize the server location.

No phone calls, though. Amazon doesn't have my cell number anyway. I have my phone set to silence unknown callers, ie any number not in my Contacts list. Wish there was a setting for it not to even answer such calls as they sometimes leave a voice message. Fortunately such calls are rare.

No, I didn't give them any information. I check my accounts daily, and my bank won't pay anything on either debit or credit cards. About a year ago I bought something from Cali. and the next day my bank called about two purchases they put on hold, all in California. They're pretty good.
