Amazon Problems

I buy a fair amount from Amazon. It's convenient although their search engine sucks. Then there's Costco. Another American institution. Foolish me, I went to Costco yesterday. It was full of rude, pushy customers. Yeah I know Christmas is just around the corner. It was a zoo full of crazies. So back to Amazon. The store is my living room and the only crazies live there. Amazon is much simpler than Costco.

Amazon is also strongly anti-gun.

So, congrats to all you gun owners for supporting one of THE most anti-gun companies known in America. :(

They sure have a lot of sellers that sell firearms accessories.
10,000+ holster listings
1,000+ conceal carry purses
2,000+ scopes & red dots
thousands of targets, range & ammo bags & boxes, magazine loaders.

Do YOU realize that many Amazon listings are from small US businesses?

Why I shop on Amazon and other online merchants:
No place local sells my hair care products.
No place local sells my preferred makeup & skin care & perfume
No place local sells the printer paper for my old printer at the shop
No place local sells guitar strings
No place local sells some of my favorite seasonings and food products
No place local sells books
Clothing choices are limited to Walmart or high priced boutique shops locally

Doggone Gal...I'm gal you reminded me...I need guitar strings...and Bobsguns is kinda right...you live in Iowa...I live in...ummm Wyoming...even farther from civilization. We gotta use Amazon...Scuse me I meant genteel civilization

Amazon is..... world wide.

There are things that I need (want) that I can't buy in Kiwiland, but can get on Amazon. A few minutes online, click on credit card details and 10 days later a parcel arrives across the world.

I recently hasd an Amazon package opened and the contents taken, but they left the box. The Amazon Prime tape along the bottom of the box had been cut and covered over by clear tape. A 10 minute phone call to Amazon (in the middle of the U.S night), and three days later the charge appears credited back to my credit card.

Only thing I don't like (apart from Karen finding out when the package arrives) is they like to charge me in NZ dollars. Big scam as the exchange rate is terrible. I always use the US dollar option.

And the last six months if I spend US$50 then there is no postage fee.

i just wish some of the third party vendors would ship here, but you can't have everything.

Indirectly, Amazon Prime has impacted many businesses because of the way shipping is handled.

I have one client that sells specialty drill bits along with making custom tools too. They only sell wholesale and don't sell through Amazon, more like MSC and Granger.

However, many customers complain that shipping may take days and some of them come up with, "what, you don't have 1-day shipping like Amazon?."
Many don't want to pony up the Next Day Delivery charge.

Well when I started this thread it was a tongue in cheek commentary on the company and how it enables me(US) to get stuff we need...or think we need. Apparently, I'm not alone.
As far as the shipping and political commentary...Many don't understand shipping esp UPS and Fed Ex...If you are the shipper...the more you ship the cheaper it is for you. The more trucks you fill the more kick backs you get...Ask me how I know. As far as politics I wish I never had to buy Chinese products and wish every company was pro gun...and at present not many are 100%...so we deal with places we can get things. Amazon just has more. My daughter worked at Anazon as a shipping packer/supervisor. When she quit it wasn't the company she left...it was Union and governmental regulations. I think striking at this season sucks...and the Union bosses are probably saying the same things the dockworkers did.. such as we can close this country(in this case...company) down...remember that?? I will go no farther down that road. I'll just say dealing with Amazon is just as rewarding and frustrating as buying mail order from Sears Montg Wards or even Herter's for us older...ah...gentlefolk...waiting for those things you ordered. Mail Order of course....It was NOT instant gratification...I'm jealous of those like Rusty ...living near an Amazon Hub

According to FNC 10K Teamsters that work for Amazon just walked off the job to strike. Fortunately we have nothing on order as we have already received all our Christmas packages.

I feel for those whose goods are now in limbo.

Well the cat's outta the bag. Now she knows I bought a Grill. She saw the email about the order from Amazon is being delivered tomorrow...she went and checked orders on the Amazon site...compared tracking numbers and sure nuff...The real concerning thing....I didn't think she knew how to do this digital stuff. I'm lucky though...went and bought her a new sewing machine yesterday...Maybe she won't hurt me and beat me....unless I sacrifice one of those rib roasts to the gods. Maybe I should start with something simple like hamburgers or hotdogs
.

Go to the local hobby stores and buy her some quilt packages. Those are rolls of cut fabric with directions to quilt them. Say immediately "it's for a hobby to give the family gifts!" A good friend told me about those today. He joined a quilting class so he could help his wife make quilts.

Cook the rib roast anyway. It'll taste good.

Since well before retirement, been immersing myself in Kindle books for years. No room for any more paper books. Otherwise, only using Amazon for things I really can't find locally.

". . . things I really can't find locally." Bingo!

That is the dynamic with online shopping. I am weary of brick and mortar shopping. Selection is declining. Other than the most common items, I can't find what I want in many stores. Sometimes even common items are inexplicably unavailable.

So I go home, find it online and order it. That's the root cause of the brick and mortar death spiral. When people can't find what they want and buy online, then stores tighten up and offer even less selection. That leads people to buy more online or not even bother to shop in stores. I believe this is the mechanism killing local gun stores.
