Ambi slide stop/release on M&P 9 Pro's

Without getting into a debate about if using the overhand method to release the slide or to use the ambi slide stop/release I'd like to know if anyone here is having problems releasing the slide with the release button. I have two M&P 9MM Pro Series guns that's virtually impossible to release the slide with them. Every other auto I own I can use the button to release the slide if I choose to. So what am I missing? Why is it so difficult? I just purchased these guns within the last three months and everything else about these pistols is flawless. Can anybody shed some light? Thank you.

My 40c was nearly impossible at first. After a trip to the factory to replace a faulty mag catch it releases with moderate pressure. I'm sure the two issues are not related but something must have been done at the factory. Lots of comments on this forum about slide stop vs release. In my opinion if its not designed to do both its a flawed design. Glad years of experience using the slide release on my 1911 translate to the M&P.

On page 12 and looking at figure 4 of the M&P owners manual you will see the nomenclature for all parts of the weapon, and what you think is a slide release is actually called a slide stop!

I think Houdini is tired of pointing this out !!! I made the same mistake based on my previous experience with other brands. Houdini has guilted me into reading my manual.

It might say slide stop, however it serves both functions, opening the slide and releasing the slide. Its up to the individual how they want to close the slide on a round, both work. I know for me personally, im quicker releasing the slide with my left thumb after putting in a new mag.

Whether you use the use the 'release' during live fire or not the fact remains that the lever is quite hard to operate on some M&P's. My 9C is the worst of my bunch and even when pulling the slide back the lever is difficult to push down enough to clear the slide. On the verge of being painful.

Seems there was a thread elsewhere on this topic. I'll try to see if that lead to any solutions.

I've got a Pro 9 and just drop it with my thumb on my shooting hand?!? Hm, didn't know there was a problem with some.

I have two M&Ps: a 9FS and a 5" 9 Pro. The slide stop on the 9FS is quite stiff while the 9Pro is easier to actuate. However, the 9FS is much more likely to "auto-drop" on a mag insert.

Make of that what you will.

M&P slide lock problem

About a year ago bought an M&P 5" 9mm Pro series, six months ago an M&P 9c and just recently an M&P 9c with thumb safety. Sensing a theme here. The pro series model slide lock worked like butter, as well as the 9c sans TS. However, the newest member of the family has a slide lock that won't budge even if you hit it with a hammer. Several other blogs also have mentioned this problem, different models and calibers. Supposedly S&W has not only redesigned it, but will ship a new one to you. Emailed them, will probably call after the New Year and see what's up. Hopefully talk to Larry at #4025, he is always helpful when you can get him on the line.
