Hit up a couple of gun shops yesterday. There is no ammo shortage here. The big shops had pallets of ammo. Lots of different stuff around now. I saw lots of 30-06, 30-30, 300 Blackout, 270, 44 Mag, even lots of 45 Colt now. Tons of target shotgun shells and 209 primers. Just about everything that was available pre apocalypse is there now. Still no primers for everything else. I bought a couple of boxes of Magtech 380 at $26 a box and a brick of Aguila, 22LR for $45. More than I want to pay but I needed it so you have to pay to play.

Recently at Cabelas. They had a fair amount.
Lots of 223 - 5.56, 22LR , 9mm coming down, 380 still Sky high.
No 38 Special.

It is getting better, but still no .38Spl. or .357.

Federal .38 FMJ range ammo runs $39.95 a box at the Pro Shop in my range. As above, no .357 although I have seen my preferred Blazer aluminum case .357 listed at $59.95 in various mail outlets. Funny, I thought Blazer was supposed to be less expensive. No matter, out of stock.

Anything here is $20 boxes of 9 and $35-45 boxes of 40, 45 or 45, 38, 44. .556 is $13 a box.

They might have plenty of some ammo from some manufacturers, but wages haven't gone up enough to justify double or higher pricing.

I have been able to find 9mm, 40 and 45 since the nonsense began, prices thru the roof have not bought any ammo for 2 yrs. I was finding primers at a LGS the most I paid was 46/1000. That LGS has not had any for a long time and when they do the parking lot looks like a walmart lot.

An observation that I've made lately that was probably true even before this mess, the large volume shops that have the up front money have the ammo. The little mom and pop places, not so much. The two shops that had the most were high volume places. They also had the most variety of both ammo and guns. One of them was so stocked that it was hard to move around the store. Except for primers, the selection was as it was before the germ. Specific things are still hard to get. Like if you're looking for a certain brand or bullet type that isn't stocked. Before, if there was something you wanted that wasn't on the shelf, most places could have it in a couple of days. Not anymore. But the supply is going in the right direction. Prices are what they are but we're in a miserable economy. For those asking about 38 and 357, there was tons of it around. Everything from range ammo to premium defense.

Consistent supply is returning - just waiting to see what will happen with prices in the next 6 months or so.

I am spit balling here, but once primers start to show up and are readily available at local stores, we will know that manufacturers are producing at the levels that they believe the future demands will be. They will do some production runs of the less in demand ammo and we will get back to a normalized supply. Prices will be higher due to inflation, but still double pre-CV prices seem too high to me FWIW.

Once people know they can go out and get what they need some of the buying behaviors may change.

I will be waiting for the right time to lay up some additional primers, I have plenty of powder brass and a good stock of primers, but I will get more.

Saturday at a LGS in Wayne County PA there was plenty of ammo to be had.

9mm 115gr FMJ Remington UMC $19.99/50rds.

40 S&W 165gr FMJ cheapest was 26.99, forgot the brand.

Didn't really look at other pistol ammo.

5.56mm 55gr FMJ was 12.99/20 WWB.

.22lr 500rd jug $50.

Hunting ammo looked well stocked. Tons of shotgun shells.

So it looks like it's becoming more available, the question is what will happen with the prices.

Haven't been out shopping in over two years, but I believe (from flyers in the mail etc) that there is plenty of ammo available (at double the price you used to buy it for). My cousin bought a 20 ga shotgun to shoot some trap (he's a new gun person so he doesn't know). Anyway, he also bought two cases of 20 ga ammo at the time (two years+ ago). Yesterday he saw a "BIG SALE" at one of the huge gun stores on the border of NY&NJ. They were generously offering all the ammo you could want (at double the normal price: on sale). He paid $98.99 (+tax) per case of 20ga. Since he is one of those folk who can't discipline himself, he made the buy at the price. I did not comment on his purchase, but did tell him that I didn't need anything when he called me from the store to see if I needed anything...

It's almost if.....

(Almost If) Some of the "youtubers" and "forums" are trying to cause a shortage. I find it strange that there is ammo everywhere I look around my area and has been that way for a long time. Yet some of the sites I frequent have threads like "Where is the ammo" and on The Tube videos telling everyone to buy buy buy as much as they can as fast as they can. What's the deal? It's almost like some want the next shortage to hurry up and get here so they can then go to the threads and videos to complain that there isn't any ammo to be found.........

I have a Runnings in my area of Upstate NY, and they are stocked pretty well. They have the best prices by far where I shop and they have a limit of 2 boxes per caliber per person per day. Their prices are $3.79 for 22lr, $19.99 for 9mm, $34.99 for 38 Special and $44.99 for 357 Magnum. They also have 45 ACP and 44 Magnum as well as lots of rifle ammo. Everything is under lock and key and the sales person carries it to the cash register for you.

Hope for you guys and gals that things get even better in the US, but if there are ammo supply problems caused by the war, it's too early for them to have hit the US.

I think, the point is that there's no REAL shortage, just a contrived shortage to drive up the prices...Like Ruger 22 says, there's plenty of ammo in upstate NY as long as you don;t mind paying about 3X the price that we paid before the fake shortage. Who thinks that $19.99 for 9mm, $34.99 for 38 Special and $44.99 for 357 Magnum should be considered a "good price". Only two years ago, I paid $9.00 for a box of 9mm. Yup, there is, indeed, PLENTY of ammo if you don't mind getting "hosed" at the cash register.
I'll pass thanks.

I would certainly not say that there's plenty of ammo in Upstate NY. There may be plenty of a few kinds of ammo, but that's not the same thing. If you want 223, 9mm or shot it's come back fairly well. However I just saw the first box of 30-06 in over a year and a half locally. Forget about 209 primers. We are a long way off from what the selection should be on a lot of calibers still. And if you are looking for a particular brand and load, you're still probably out of luck. And what is available is at least 25-50% overpriced.
