This week I saw an episode of Shooting Gallery and Michael Bane tested a bunch of 410 SD ammo. The one that came out on top, Federal's 000 Buckshot SD load. They also have a #4 load but that's not so good. The Federal 000 Buck beat the Remington Ultimate Home Defense and Winchester PDX1 offerings.

What was thew criterea for one ammo 'beating' another?

Lefty, here's a thread where I comment on my Judge and Governor experiences.
Please see posts 22 & 26.

If you have already read the linked thread you will have seen that I didn't rely on
ballistic gel tests, or any other "scientific" methods, to form my opinion. Just
experience based on living targets, which were much, much, smaller than
what you can expect to be up against in a self defense situation.

I'm still a little confused by my results because, as a kid, I used a .410 bore
shotgun for hunting and, from what I can remember, it did a pretty good
job, although on smaller critters like rabbits, squirrels & partridge.

I keep wondering if the extremely short barrel length is having that
dramatic of an effect on what I'm seeing. In fact, when I had my
"Louisville Slugger" moment with The Judge, with 3" 000 Buck, I almost
got a Judge with a 6" barrel to see if it would be more effective.
