AMMO FOR MP SHIELD 9MM

124gr XTP's function 100% in my Shield. It's loaded with them right now in fact.

That being said, any quality JHP has functioned very well in my Shield.

I use Remington Golden Sabre 124g +p and Federal Hydra Shok 124 std pressure. Neither of these are considered the latest/greatest load but I have had flawless function in my Shield, my M&PC and my wife's M&PC. The GS is very accurate in my experience. I'm not a "ballistics" guru but my research indicated these loads should do the job.

As a bonus you can find these at really, really affordable prices if you search patiently.

I just got a box of the Hornady 124XTP to try in my non S&W 9mm, I've used the critical duty and those were awesome and very accurate.(XDs) for those that want to know. I know..I know... I deserve a Gibb's slap upside the head.

I keep Winchester Ranger T 124 gr. +p+ in my shield, and Federal HST 147gr (not +p) in the spare mag. Both function flawlessly so far, although I haven't run more than 50 Ranger Ts thru it.

Anyone try these Winchester Train & Defend Ammo

Ever since I saw the review on you tube by Ammo Quest on the Winchester "Train & defend" series, I've been sold. My carry ammo is now Winchester Defend. All of my LGS are sold out on the Winchester "train" but for the price you cant go wrong. It is a very good performing round in my Shield 9.

For your info, Selway Armory has the Winchester "Train"
W40SWT for: $18.99 a 50 rd. box. This ammo is considerably
higher priced at most LGS's and from online suppliers.

I saw on the internet where +p ammo was a better choice than standard ammo (in a discussion about 124g gold dots) because in the shorter barrel of a shield the extra pressure is required for complete expansion. In your experiences, is that true? Also, is the +p 124g gold dot safe to use in the shield?

Thanks

In all honestly I see no need for +P ammo in a self defense carry pistol. However if you wish to carry it then by all means go for it. IMO, I dont see the need to justify the extra few bucks for +P when so many BG's have been taken out over the yrs using standard pressure ammo.

Looks like the new 150gr Micro HST is testing well.I picked some up and it shot real well in my shield. From 2 on line tests it goes in deep and gets big.Mild recoil and low flash.Very easy to hit on target with double and triple taps to.Seems like a great conceal carry load.Performance is on par with the best 147 loads.Walmarts have it in stock.

I was just about to ask about 150gr. I saw some at Wal Mart as well but forgot what kind it was, just remembered was 150.
I shoot mostly 115 ball at steel targets. I tried 135 and was impressed at how much more it kicked around the plates. I assume 150 would have even more "umph".
Thanks for the post. I'll have to grab a box or 12 next time and try them out.

Another fan of the Micro HST here and it's our SD ammo.

I've been carrying the Liberty as well. Liked the tests I saw and how it works in the Shield plus how it shredded some 4-5 inch thick phone books at the range.

Phone Book?? What's that? LOL

Has anyone used Hornady 124 gr XTP in their Shield?
Any thoughts?
Better suggestions for defense?

I have used a pretty good bit of American Gunner in 124gr +P. shoots straight (2" @ 15 yards) . goes bang every time I press the trigger. clean burning too. Guys at the LGS say it is the same as custom except custome doesn't come in +P.
