I've been able to find the ammo i need at local places, albeit 2x normal prices
Ive been able to find .223/5.56 and .40 S&W on a fairly reg basis but you have to always check stores when your in the areas, if not you will miss them. I just picked up a 100 Round Value pack of .223 at walmart today for $35.00

Supply and demand, although .22LR has been hard to come by in this area since last spring.

I agree it's S&D on popular calibers (22lr, 223/5.56, 9mm, 40 S&W), BUT, something stinks of profiteering on some other calibers (38 Spcl comes to mind, 357 too).

I saw that pic before when you posted it, I'm shocked they had one there at yours. The one I go to most of the time does not sell guns besides air soft guns. Few of the others in the area sell a few guns but mostly shotguns or hunting rifles. Ive never seen an AR at a walmart in this state or I just had never noticed but considering the types of guns that are sold at them around here it would not surprise me if they didnt carry them.

I was wondering the same thing as I had read that Walmart is the nations largest seller of gun's. I had no idea as the 2 local Walmarts near me have only ammuniton and maybe a couple long guns.

This is not this forst ammo shortage and manufacturers know this.
Folks, it's been two months. Manufacturers were slammed and unprepared. They are not about to go out and purchase new equipment, hire new personnel and increase their overhead to any great extent over what has historically been a blip on the radar.
Supplies are starting to return to store shelves And yes, prices went up. As a goofy TV character once said: "Suprise Surprise Surprise!!!"
Which one of us didn't see that one coming, eh?
There are real 2A battles being waged by our elected officials and I for one am using my energy writing to each one of them. I feei it it time better spent rather than finding a properly fitting tinfoil hat!

At this point, 2 months after the buying frenzy began (as Stu pointed out), it is supply and demand that is driving the prices. When someone posts a question about gun values, many suggest going to GunBroker and searching their Completed Auctions to determine the current pricing. Same has to be said of ammo. Do a search on GB under ammo and type in Brick. Nearly all the completed auctions went for $50 which is 10 cents per round without shipping. Interestingly enough, very few Remington products sold.
The old man that I set up with at a couple of gun shows per year went to one 2 weeks ago and had a table with nothing but a fraction of his ammo stash. It was a show of about 120 tables in a fairly small town but some folks from Austin came over and increased the attendance. He had old value packs and bricks of .22 LR for $60, individual boxes for $6. He sold everything before noon then went home at lunch and restocked his table. Did he take some verbal abuse ? Yeah but he is past getting his feelings hurt. He even pointed out to some of the jerks that he remembered only giving $4 for some of those bricks. That's how he got rid of the complainers. One guy told him that the only reason he traveled the 2 hrs to the show was to buy ammo and he would have been hacked if there was none for sale. Les was the only one that had any .22 or .223 or 9mm at the entire show. There is still a demand for it and very little supply. What is driving that demand is another story.
