Went to the Bloomington,IN. Kmart today with my wife and checked out the sporting goods section. The ammo counter has some clearance tags posted so I took a closer look. They had Winchester high brass 12 ga. #71/2 for $1.50 per box! Unfortunately they only had three boxes. I got eight boxes of Winchester 30-06 for $9.00 box. They had 270 ammo for $8.00 box and 300 Win. Mag for $11.20 box. I also picked up 16 cases of clay pigeons for $4.00 per box. Better go check out your Kmart!

Better go check out your Kmart!
I quit shopping there when Rosie O'Donnell did their ads. I just can't set foot in a K-Mart, although I may loose out in this case.

I'm surprised they still sell ammo...

Re: High Brass - I thought that Hi/Lo Brass had nothing to do with power level. I think I read that in an NRA publication...

That is true, however, most ammo companies only put install a higher brass base on shells that are more expensive and not of the "el cheapo" kind.

Sounds like a Clearance Sale to me!!! As in Getting out of the business!

They had several other calibers and shot size that were not on clearance- not sure why they picked these. Our local Kmart closed when they opened the Super Wal-Mart 15 years ago. I've been in this store several times and they never seem too busy. The Kmart in Bedford,IN. sells ammo too.

I haven't seen ammo in a K-Mart in years. They used to sell guns in Oklahoma. When they got rid of the "evil" guns and ammo, I quit shopping there.

Not an "ammo" sale, but a sale none the less.

Years ago I drove my own vehicle, a Toyota pickup from Salt Lake to San Francisco on business, instead of going by air. This was just to be different.

Well, on the way back I passed through Lodi, CA and came across a Safeway store and was being purchased by a new grocery chain. The new owner was placing all the beer, wine and spirits on "sale" in that they were not going to carry this.

HOLY TOLEDO JONES!

Well, my wife was with me and we started filling grocery buggies with wine that was all 75% off!

I can't tell you how much we actually bought, but I filled that little truck. We didn't have to go to the "state store" back in Utah for a number of years!

Not being a shotgun guy, what does "high brass" mean?

...it's a hold over from black powder days...here's a quote from another website...

Shotshells with paper hulls often developed pinholes where the powder burned through the paper hull. To prevent such pinholes, the brass base was extended up the side of the case to cover the entire volume of powder inside the case. Shotshells with large shot for hunting larger animals (e.g., ducks, geese, turkeys, and with buckshot: deer) had a high brass base, because of the larger volume of black powder inside these shells. Shotshells for games (e.g., trap and skeet) as well as hunting small birds (e.g., doves, quail) had a low brass base, to cover the smaller volume of black powder inside these shells. Modern smokeless powder requires a much smaller volume than the equivalent amount of black powder, so that low brass bases would be adequate for all shotshells today. However, because of tradition, long-range shotshells continue to have a high brass base.

You tell me there are still Kmart stores in this country. Not doughting you but Kmart went belly up in texas years ago. I heared they were gonna keep 2 stores in texas, 1 in the valley nd 1 in el paso so the illegals would'nt get too upset when they crossed the border.

I vehemently object to Wal Mart's business practices, business ethics and their predatory practices. I back up my thinking with action, or actually in-action in their case. I'm 59 years old and have never set foot in one of their stores and have every intention of keeping it that way. So, you guys out there can have my allocation of their cheap ammo.

What in the world does Wal-mart have to do with an ammo at K-Mart thread? Good grief....at least keep your hatred focused on the right store.

I can understand having your own personal boycott of a chain store, just on principle.
You do miss out on some good prices from time to time, however.

K-Mart is the owner of SEARS.......

Which is why after I got hosed on the infamous evaporating K-Mart stock deal I quit buying Craftsman tools at retail. I'm a died-in-the-wool Craftsman guy, but now I just take my beat-up and abused garage sale finds and exchange them for new tools.

I have 3 K-Marts within spittin' distance. I'm not above giving them my money if I can find some good deals on ammo right now. Quite a while ago I went to one of them and they had Remington field loads that had gotten wet so the bases had started to rust. I bought a case of them for about $2/box and they still all went bang.

There are still several K-Marts in the State of Washington. Wally-World is the 'new kid on the block' around here. We also have Fred Meyer stores which have also been around since I was a kid; which is more than a week now.
