Ammo panic calming down or supply picking up?

So we have quite a few members here who seem to be well stocked with ammo and yet I keep reading that they are in the store and looking to buy.:confused::confused: I know America is still a relatively free country, but somehow I'm missing the point.

I'm not shopping on line.

As for those who are well stocked and are still buying ... the old saying goes, there's no such thing as too much ammo. If I walked into Hoffman's tomorrow and they had Federal or Blazer for under $200/case, I'd buy at least two cases, maybe three or four.

Not finding any around here, neither is our son in the Seattle area.

When I went to the Cabelas website a few days ago, they'd removed the .22LR Rimfire category.

I'm not asking you to shop online. All I'm asking is would you be out buying if this furore was not going on.

I believe its worse here in Arkansas for the past month I've been going to Sports about 7:30 and getting in line before they open been getting 9mm, 22lr, 380, 40,45,223, 5.56 they will let you buy one box of each. But this past Wednesday nothing so that tells me its getting worse

I went to three Walmarts today in the Memphis suburbs. I came out with 200 rounds of 45 a.c.p. 120 rounds of 22-250 and 100 rounds of 7.62X39. Though some clerks didn't exactly follow the rule, damn that 3 box max per day. I could have bought 3 times as much

I was born independently poor. We never had enough ammo on the farm. Some times it was so bad my brother and I had to share 1 22 LR round.

Due to never having enough ammo, for many years I would buy some extra, not enough to be considered a hoarder, but extra. Not every time but occasionally I would pick up a brick of 22 LR or some extra 223.

We put our house on the market and I am putting ammo in Army ammo cans. I would have sworn I probably only had a couple of bricks. For a while it seemed like I was finding them everywhere. Winchester, Remington, even a Russian brick. I went to look for something in my truck console, geez there was a brick in there for plinking when we go to the farm. I moved some stuff in the middle of the truck seat and found a 325 round box of Remington's. I was taking some old knives out of one ammo box to use it for ammo, under that was a brick of old Remington I had bought from a Ben Franklin in the early 70's. I also found some old primers from the 70's in there, it looks like I was buying primers for 8.99 per K then.

With all the house cleaning I quit worrying about checking Walmart or the LGS to pay 7 or 9 bucks per box of 50 every time I go in.

I wander how many here would find some if you "organized"?

OH! and after Dad did not have to support me and my bro's ammo habit he started buying ammo. He and Mom did many yard sales and he bought all kindsof factory ammo plus many partial boxes of 22 LR. He made leather pouches and used kitchen baggies to keep ammo in. Dad dumped ammo in the bags loose. When Dad passed and we were cleaning out his stuff we found about 1.5 to 2K rounds loose in bags. Neither my Bro nor my son wanted it, turned up their noses they did at loose mixed ammo. I have been using it for plinking over the last few years (this is why I forgot the bricks in the truck) and it works great. My Son, Grandson and Brother are totally out of 22 LR. The next time I see them I'm going to pull out a bag or two of Dad's ammo, let them remind me that it was Dad's, watch them get the kink out of their nose and give it to them.

Sure I would. I'd either be at my LGS or Cabela's. The reason I'm not paying these stupid prices or playing availability tag is I have an adequate supply for the next few months, at my present shooting rate.

I'll be blunt. My absolute minimum on hand is 5k. If I get to that, I stop shooting. My "I really don't want less than this" quantity is 10k. What I prefer to have on hand is 15 to 20k. I've been shooting for too many years and shot too much .22 ammo to get all bent out of shape because I can't find a single brick. I buy in quantity when it's available so I won't have to. FWIW, I've shot in excess of 500k over the years - and that's just .22.

I don't know if this answers your question or even why you asked it, but when I buy ammo, I buy what I feel I need; the other guy is on his own.

One more thing ... I NEVER tell anyone else they have too much ammo or they should only buy xxx amount and leave the rest for someone else. THEY determine how much they need, and if that takes the last box or case on the shelf, then so be it. How much they have or what they do with it when they leave the store is simply none of my, or anyone else's, business.

On the way home tonight I stopped by the local Cabelas and they had 223 AND 22lr. I don't go by there every day, but that's the first time I've seen either in about two months at that store. Limited to 5 boxes (20 rds/box, PPU brand) of the 223 and 1 box (100 rds CCI, either HP or solids) of the 22lr per customer.

Apparently it came in that morning, and the 223 lasted almost a full day. I expect the 22lr to be gone after tomorrow.

They did however have a full rack of AR's by Colt, Bushmaster, DPMS, Sig, POF and one other brand that I can't remember.

When I lived in CT, I was Hoffmans every Saturday. Always had a great supply of anything and everything. Picked up quite a few beautiful S&Ws from the used cabinet. PA is a much better place to live, but I do miss Hoffmans.

funny thing about a hour after I posted my buddy called and asked if I needed any ammo and of course the answer was yes so I ended up with 150 rounds of 9mm. They also had 22lr , so what is the going rate for 50 round box of 9mm and 100 round box of 22lr

My local Walmart has been bare for forever it seems. I admit I only look when grocery shopping. I did go to my LGS today to pickup a new 642 and got some FMJ for it but no defensive ammo for it in stock. Go figure. Seems they had a lot more guns in the case than anytime recently but they looked used. I wrote a program a while back to to find range ammo on the web and page me based on filters so I could get on the puter and buy it. Ive noticed that the prices have gotten so high or the demand has lowered or both that ammo isn't selling out as quickly anymore. I feel just from logging prices in my program and looking at the data over the past few months that we are about to crest unless some idiot does something stupid with a gun. My 2 cents.

The Wal*Marts and Academy Sports and others around here have been bone bare for months. In fact I'm pretty sure WM has moved the ammo case over to the candy department to lock up the candy since there isn't any ammo to bother with anymore. ;)

Nothing on the shelves in Northwest Ohio. I only shoot CCI 40gr Mini Mags with my slidefire 15-22. Have 3400 of them but always looking for more. Nothing on local shelves so I have had to go where I can find them (net).
