I have only been shooting the AR platform for a couple of years. I went to my local sporting goods store just to see if they had anything, as usual the shelves were bare. Except they had just gotten a shipment of about 30,1000 round boxes. They had boxes of Winchester .223 for $400 a box which I was fully prepared to buy. But next to them were box that had no label, no print no nothing except hand written on the box in blue ball point pen was "5.56 NATO 62.gr FMJ 1000 rounds". They were priced at $229.99 a box of 1000. So I found it a no brainer since all my AR'S shoot both 5.56/.223 I would buy two of them for just a little bit over the Win .223. I have never had the need to stockpile ammo, if I was planning a day out I would go to the store buy a couple hundred rounds of ammo and head out. I have never shot anything labeled 5.56! I never felt the need to as .223 "was" cheap enough and readily available. I though maybe since it wasn't labeled and was so cheap that it was reloaded ammo. The store usually stocks bags of 1000 count reloads, so I was ok with that. But what threw me was it was green tipped, I have never seen it before and only knew the LC marking's on the case from everyone swearing by and buy LC brass for reloading. So I am a noob when it comes to anything 5.56 other than the obvious, So that's why I posted pics up and asked for info on the 5.56 cartridge which I know nothing about. And I thought who better to ask than you guys. I take from the above statements I got a good deal on it, which I'm not complaining about, but have no idea if it's more or less expensive than normal .223. If it's better, worse? and why the hell is it green? Thank you all who have responded or will and sorry for the long post.
