I usually buy boxed ammo and don't really have much experiance with "bulk" ,but I do know a little about it from reading the forum.I came across this at my local Scheels, so I bought it. I know it is stamped LC for Lake city it has the NATO cross and #12 stamped on it for 2012.I guess my question is, is it reloaded ammo? is it any good? I bought 2000 rounds for $490.00, decent price? Any info you guys could give me would be appreciated.Thank you

That looks like Lake City Penatrator military surplus and at 490 dollars for 2000 rounds you stole it. The going rate for 5.56 anything is around a dollar a round if you can find it.

To me that looks like the real deal you just happened to be at the right place at the right time.

I have only been shooting the AR platform for a couple of years. I went to my local sporting goods store just to see if they had anything, as usual the shelves were bare. Except they had just gotten a shipment of about 30,1000 round boxes. They had boxes of Winchester .223 for $400 a box which I was fully prepared to buy. But next to them were box that had no label, no print no nothing except hand written on the box in blue ball point pen was "5.56 NATO 62.gr FMJ 1000 rounds". They were priced at $229.99 a box of 1000. So I found it a no brainer since all my AR'S shoot both 5.56/.223 I would buy two of them for just a little bit over the Win .223. I have never had the need to stockpile ammo, if I was planning a day out I would go to the store buy a couple hundred rounds of ammo and head out. I have never shot anything labeled 5.56! I never felt the need to as .223 "was" cheap enough and readily available. I though maybe since it wasn't labeled and was so cheap that it was reloaded ammo. The store usually stocks bags of 1000 count reloads, so I was ok with that. But what threw me was it was green tipped, I have never seen it before and only knew the LC marking's on the case from everyone swearing by and buy LC brass for reloading. So I am a noob when it comes to anything 5.56 other than the obvious, So that's why I posted pics up and asked for info on the 5.56 cartridge which I know nothing about. And I thought who better to ask than you guys. I take from the above statements I got a good deal on it, which I'm not complaining about, but have no idea if it's more or less expensive than normal .223. If it's better, worse? and why the hell is it green? Thank you all who have responded or will and sorry for the long post.

The green tip is marked for easy ID of the penetrator. You stole this ammo. Good score. A fortunate day for you. Enjoy. Some say the XM is military reject and only good for practice. I haven't had my first dud in thousands of rounds.

oh no! i definitely wouldn't shoot that! you should let me take it off your hands, i will cover your losses! (totally kiddin, you got a heck of a deal...green tips are penetrating ammo, red tips are tracers)...now if you would be so kind as to tell your LGS to contact me, i will have a discussion with them about properly disposing of these sub-par rounds they seem to have gotten stuck with! :)

Bad stuff man it will destroy your rifle. Send it to me & I'll dispose of it properly!!! J/K...

Great find & price, congrats.

You got a great deal on these. Just be aware that some rifle ranges do not allow steel tipped bullets so check before you shoot them.

I'll give you what you paid & then some...I'd pay that for one box if you want to sell, your box would be free. I'm serious!

My experience with the 62gr is its accuracy is a little less than the xm193 but it is great practice ammo, plus the brass is reloadable. I accidently shot one of my gongs with one, it pitted the face and ricochet off of it from 100yards. I do still have 100 rounds of it. Great Buy!!!

I got some 3/8" targets cut from A514. Takes a 30-06 FMJ at 50 yds with hardly a scratch. xm855 bounce right off it at 50 yds. No ding, nothing. Do you know what grade the gong is, and what thickness?

Got any need for a couple? I have a few more. 10.5" x 11.5"

You paid a little more than half the price this was selling for before the panic.
