Ammo shortage,again?

New member from Oregon

Hi everyone and Happy New Year. As a American who loves the constitution as founded and with the uncertany on hand I saw this coming and started stocking(more guns and ammo) in November. In Southern Oregon PMC 556 is at one store for 7.99 a box with 20 box max. All other ammo except for a few hand guns and not so popular calibers and long range (.300win, 7mm, 338) are gone or 5 times the price. You should have different effective (under 200 yard) calibers. There will be a demand probably for atleast 6 months due to reasonably priced ammo companies like PMC (who supplies 20% to 30% of the factory loads in the US) who are reducing and not shipping some calibers to the US due to North Korea. Buy all the reloading gear and product you can. It will be restricted in 2014 (it is in the Obama care bill). Any semi auto rifle in 556, 223, 762x39, 308, 9mm, 45, 40 and most other calibers except 22lr are gone in Oregon and online. Many hand guns are still available (most calibers) NOTE: It is estimated that there are over 3 million payed for orders for the above calibers in semi auto rifles, after talking with many who supply and sell guns. There are many more retail orders as well. If Obama and his peers get stupid (which they will) it will get worse. The good news is so far violent crime is way down in our area even with less police. I wonder why? Keep your faith and good luck to all.

CTD has posted that their HK91 Mags that they were recently selling for 2 bucks apiece were out of stock at $59 each. I think they had had jillions in stock.

Greetings and welcome.

Could you please link to where in the bill that is?

Thank you.

Last I checked, sportsmansguide.com, cheaperthandirt.com and luckygunner.com all had lots of ammo in stock (and plenty backordered).
That they do at in excess of 30% markup since last month on the popular calibers. Sportsman Guide and Cheaper than dirt won't ship to New Jersey and I can't understand how Lucky gunner stays in business with his predatory pricing but it is a free market.
I only hope they are remembered when the din dies down and the vendors that kept their prices at reasonable rates are again replenished.

NE Ohio there is virtually no rifle ammo and no AR or AK rifles to be had. only bolt actions. I did find some 7.62 x 39 Tulamo at lunch but it will be gone by dinner. I know one GS owner who has ammo and AR's but won't put them out. He is selling them on GB instead where he can get exorbitant prices and not make his customers mad. I know he has the stock because he told he planed this months ago. :(
Handgun ammo is fine.

Hapworth, The new poster- doge- may have been referring to CIFTA (Its title is the Inter-American Convention Against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Amunition, Explosives and Other Related Materials.) treaty, wherein ammo and the manufacture of,on any scale, is required to be licensed. I haven't read the Affordable Health Care Act, or War and Peace, because they're both too long...:)

Nobody remembers that CTD did this exact thing in 2008...sadly nobody will remember 2012 either...

bullets for reloading

EVERYTHING is getting scarce. I just bought some bullets and I had to settle for what I could get instead of what I wanted. I'm glad I reload because factory ammo is so expensive, but if you can't find components for reloading, it's no help. Looks like I picked a great time to revive my shooting/reloading hobbies.

My local dealer has amazing stories about the empty shelves at distributors. I finally decided to pick up a SSP226 and there aren't any anywhere he's telling me after a week of searching distributors. I was running low on range ammo and called Cabellas WAREHOUSE and they are out of ALL 9mm until late this month - and that's just an estimate.

Somethin' is happening....

Thanks Old TexMex, that makes sense.

And War and Peace is a fine read...I'm told. ;)

hopefully price will settle down after all the panic subsides. 1$/rd of 223 is insane.

My memory is also razor sharp about them! I have not spent one penny with CTD since the Clinton Ban when I first noticed they were price gouging. If they were the last store standing I would do without rather than spend any money with them!

I spent as much money as I could allow on ammo leading up to the election, but I still didn't get the kind of supply I really wanted to have.

The reaction after Sandy Hook has been absolutely unfathomable. The is no practice/FMJ ammo in any caliber anywhere in western PA!! You can find expensive self defense and high end hunting ammo at your LGS, but nothing else. I realized I only had a few rounds of .308/7.62X51 ammo left and tried to buy about 100 rounds. ZIP not even a box of Remington Core Lokt at Wally World.

My LGS bought a 12,800 round drum of .223 off another dealer 100 miles away. Rolled it into his store, baggied the ammo 100 rounds to a bag and sold it all in three hours1

Got lucky today went to Dick's for some shoes and left with six value packs of .223. Bought a little for me and some for a friend. They said he just put it out a few minutes before I came in.

Glad you found some ammo.

You are aware that Dick's pulled all AR's from their shelves and canceled any orders placed for them before the Sandy Hook shootings, aren't you? They gave the customers a $100 gift card when they complained about canceling the orders.

I wasn't aware they did that I'm just happy I got a chance to actually buy some .223 it's been non-existent around here and what is available at the LGS is overpriced.
