Ammo Shortages

I placed a significant dealer order in March for 9mm ammo directly to the factory. I was told end of May it would be ready. I called again last week and now they are telling me August/September. According to the factory rep I spoke with, the common calibers (i.e. 9mm, 45, 380, 38 spl.) are back ordered out at least 12 months. Some are as far out as 18 months. The shortest wait was for .357 sig which he said was backordered almost 1 million rounds.

I live in Southern California. The ammo shelves here have been dry since December. I'm thinking it's the same chicken little hysteria that ran fuel prices to 4.35 a gallon last year, along with stupid speculators trying to cash in on limited supply. (Look at Gun Broker, 50 bucks a box for .380. Gimme a break) I actually found 2 lbs of Bullseye powder at a normal price (No Unique anywhere) and I bought them until Unique comes back into stock. Doesn't matter where you go down here, it's all gone. Even bass pro shops is down to only .22 magnum and rifle ammo along with shotshells.

My Dad was at his second home in Oregon, and I asked him to check on .380 along with 1000 primers in large and small pistol persuasion. He found the last 5 boxes of .380 95 gr FMJ for 25 bucks a box in Roseburg... but no primers. He's back at his other home in Carson City Nv. checking for primers in that area. I'm guessing they're out up there, too.

I ordered 10 boxes (50 rounds each) from Cabellas around April 15th. I got 4 boxs in 3 weeks. 2 more came in today.the rest who knows when.I also noticed that 9mm at the gun show i went to on May 16th was almost $10.00 more per box then in April when I bought my gun.Glad I bought my 22a. At least I can find .22 most of the time.

I'm still waiting for the order I placed with Midway on March 24 to be filled. On April 24 I sent them an e-mail inquiry about the order's status and I received a reply advising me that they expected that my order would be filled by May 15. Yesterday, I sent them a followup inquiring about the status of my order. As of now, no response.

This, btw, is an on-line seller that advertises that 99% of its orders are filled on the day they are made.

A Walmart near me in Houston has about 40 boxes of Blazer Brass .40 S&W for 12.97$/50-rd box. The sales rep told me she has had this ammo on the shelf for three days with very little being sold. Gun shops around here sell this same ammo for more than 20$/box.

I don't really get why people would "stock up" during a run on ammo... Pay top dollar to just to put in a shelf? Seems like a time not to buy. I haven't gone target shooting in a while, but I'll just wait til things calm down.
