Ammo vending machines

In most free and quasi free states the only "control" on ammo at the point of sale is the clerk at Walmart asking if you are 18 or 21 variously. Sometimes followed by a quick look at your expired unlaminated out of state driver's lisc. And that works, and we like it that way.

The only part of that machine that worries me is the unlikely event that the "drop" might cause a round to detonate. Even that poses very minimal danger since the round going off would be unconfined.

Hmm since you have to be 21 to buy handgun ammo, I wonder if I could get these installed in the state franchised liquor stores where you have to be 21 to enter anyway...

Obviously some folks did not trouble themselves to read the article. The vending machine in question is located inside a private gun club, access controlled by swipe-card entry, no underage persons without adult. In short, a very controlled environment, not accessible to the general public, with very close to zero possibility of anyone making an unlawful ammo purchase. The gun club makes nothing from vending machine sales, strictly a convenience provided for club members.

These facts will not deter the anti's and the mainstream media from portraying this as the biggest threat to public safety in history. No point in jumping to conclusions about this when we can just wait for the special investigative news report from a talking head jumping to conclusions for us all.

That would be my concern other than that I think its great!

Thats not 100% correct. An FFL holder can only *sell* handgun ammo to someone at least that age. A non-FFL holder doesn't have that restriction.

ATF quote:
"May a parent or guardian purchase firearms or ammunition as a gift for a juvenile (less than 18 years of age)?

Yes. However, possession of handguns by juveniles (less than 18 years of age) is generally unlawful. Juveniles generally may only receive and possess handguns with the written permission of a parent or guardian for limited purposes, e.g., employment, ranching, farming, target practice or hunting."

Vending machines are a convenient way to buy snacks so why not ammo? This man came up with a unique idea. The machines, which sell nearly every caliber of bullet from .22 to .45, are doing a brisk business.

I like.......

A friend of mine posted a photo somewhere showing a gun vending machine. He claimed it would happen--only in Texas. If I could cut and paste the mock photo-id do so here.:D

Keep in mind that anyone with a credit card can buy ammo by the truckload on the Net, no ID no nothing. So the idea of buying a few boxes of ammo from a vending machine, whether it be at a gun range or on a street corner, is hardly an issue by comparison.

While the photo does not look like it is such a machine, there are vending machines which have a motorized arm the moves to the position of the product and then delivers it to the output tray. This type of machine is often used with carbonated beverages, especially when glass bottles are used.

Anyone who seriously thinks that properly loaded center-fire ammunition dropped a foot or two in a vending machine is likely to detonate should probably not be around any firearms or ammunition.

It just cannot happen. Period.

The world had a relatively small number of smart people (that includes us of course) and the rest of them.....well you take a guess.
