Walked into the Kittery Trading Post the other day and found an Elmer Keith M29-3 sitting on the shelf. The gun is anib, unfired except for the factory test firing and came with the presentation case and all papers and accessories. The only thing I didn't get was the cardboard box it came in. I have no other safe queens or commemoratives, and I know that as a rule they aren't worth anything extra, but being a big M29 fan, I was drawn to it and it ended up coming home with me. I've got a bunch of 29's and 629's with all barrel lengths from 4" to 12" and my 4" 629 was tuned by Andy Cannon so I figure why shoot this one. I paid $725 which I figure was a pretty fair price. What do you folks think, am I nuts!

I don't know anything about that precise commemorative model...but IMHO I'd say you did great, just based on condition and the display case, etc.

Generally speaking I'm not too big on the commemoratives, but if you can get into one for essentially the same price as a non-commemorative, why not? At least yours commemorates Elmer Keith, and not something silly like some commemoratives that have been made over the years.

Enjoy it!
Tim

Mike, I happen to like that gun myself and have tossed around buying one off and on myself. I see nothing wrong with buying a gun that strikes your fancy to enjoy for what it is, especially if you have guns you shoot. I think you did just fine. Bob

I'm not a fan of commemoratives and I would probably have bit on that . . . .

EK comemorative

I saw one sell at an Arizona gun show for $800 without a box or papers. I think you purchased it right!!

You did very well. I just paid $725 (they threw in a $30 box of ammo too..) for a 29-3 without any extras and was glad to have found it in my neck of Penn's Woods. I would have been all over that E.K. edition in a heartbeat.

Nothing wrong with that gun and the price was great too. I think it is nice to have at least one show piece, especially one to accent your other .44's.

its a nice gun, I had it on hold but when I got there I saw a used 329 and then things got blurry and I left with a new 329 and a used set of old Lyman 44 dies under my arm still dont know what happened.....LOL.....dam that always happens

You did fine. If those who have gone on ahead, can see what we do on this mortal coil, It would put a big grin on Elmer Keiths face to see that gun shot and carried. To not shoot a gun dedicated to Elmer Keith would be like not driving a car produced in tribute to Ab Jenkins.

I've thought about that often. As simple a guy as Elmer was, I'm sure he would be flattered to have a 29 done for him but I'm sure he would be the first to say take it out and light it up !
