Check out this review, it is a long term review and involves over 5k rounds fired through 3 different M&P15's (over 15k rounds total) with accuracy tests and performance evaluations.

S&W's M&P 15 Is One Rugged & Reliable AR

these tests were done using the old style barrels. the newer 1:8 5R barrel is even better than what they tested or at least thats my honest opinion!

Originally the "T" had the 1:9 barrel but when S&W found out how much better the 1:8 5R barrel is they started switching them over. I have shot the 1:9 it is Ok but the 1:8 is way better.

Great find Grover! A nice read but we already knew how good it is. Wish it was more current(it's almost 2 yrs old) though. Would be nice if they did an updated review with the 1:8 5R Melonite barrel

I agree so much...will put my nose back to the grindstone and maybe I can find one.

Older than that... copied from the article...

"For review, Smith & Wesson provided initial-production samples of the standard M&P15 and M&P15T tactical versions, which arrived at PASA Park during December 2005′s bitter cold snap"

You are so right about the twist. Great find (don't care how old it might be). Good reference for comparing "older to newer" and what changes they have done.
