An observation of Wolfe chili

The quality of the past is gone. I bought some for my "bad weather" stash. Opened one, trashed it, and put the rest of the cans in a food drive bin. Won't buy that anymore.

Just how long has it been since you had a big steaming bowl of WOLF BRAND CHILI? Well that's too long. Commercial in the 60s.

I LOATHE Hormel chili, and that's about all that Giant Eagle has these days. It's so disgustingly greasy, I'd just as soon have a steaming hot bowl of cosmoline...

I know it's not dog food. It may not even be food.

I tried some once and couldn't get past a couple of spoons. I threw the stuff out in the yard for the animals. My dog came over, sniffed it and walked off. No wild animal ate it either.

On rare occasions I'll use Kroger's house brand canned chili to top hot dogs. Other than that it's what I make or nothing. I make three or four kinds, including white chili with chicken and Great Northern beans. One thing they all have in common is that they never, ever contain kidney beans.

The good stuff is a little labor intensive, but so well worth it.

I never heard of Wolfe's. I atte my last can of Hormel chili about 25 years ago. One day I was heating a pan of Hormel on the stove, when I noticed my shepherd/husky Misty sitting tall and proud with her ears up and a good-sized "gift" next to her on the floor. Ordinarily she would be ashamed of such a thing, but not today.

I took a whiff of her leaving, then went over to the stove to smell the chili. Let's just say it would be a kindness to say it smelled like dogfood. Misty obviously took a whiff and took it as permission to drop the big one.

The last time I ate Hormel chili was at some unremembered time before that, because that can went in the garbage. I wouldn't feed it to my dog.
