An older gentleman I've known for years told me this morning that he is parting out his gun collection and I've been given first dibs on them if I'm interested...which of course I am! I went over to his house this morning to take a look and he sure has a number of good ones up for grabs. This fellow has always taken very good care of his stuff...and his gun collection is definitely no exception. This is possibly a great opportunity but I need a little advise. This is what he has and what he's asking:

Smith&Wesson 629-1 Stainless .44mag 6" $500

S&W 586-1 .357mag 6" with full lug 98% like new $500

S&W 15 .38spl. 4" (no lug), pinned barrel, adjustable sights in 98% condition $400

S&W 28-2 .357 pinned bbl, recessed cylinder 6 1/2" with half lug in 90% condition and asking $450

S&W model 41 7" barrel in 85%+ condition $600

Ruger New Model Blackhawk .30 Carbine 7 1/2" blued, 98% condition w/ box $300

Ruger New Model Blackhawk .45LC 4 1/2" blued 95% condition no box $295

Ruger New Model Blackhawk .357 7 1/2" blued 95% condition, w/ box $255

Ruger New Model Blackhawk .357 4 1/2" blued 95% condition $300

Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk Stainless 5 1/2" .44mag with round trigger guard (not dragoon style) $315

Ruger GP100 4" blued, w/ box .357mag 98% $310

Taurus .38spl snubby (about 1 1/2") blued, like new 99% $245

Taurus 172 pump action 17HMR carbine blued 95% $150

Ruger M77 .30-06 Older style with tang safety with cheap scope $275

Kimber 1911 Custom TLE II with Kimber Crimson Trace laser grip $700

Colt Huntsman 6" (serial number 305898S) in 95% condition (only very minor wear on bluing around the barrel edges of muzzle), no box $350.

Colt New Frontier revolver in .22lr with what looked like about a 5 1/2" barrel. It looked to me like that gun has an aluminum grip frame like the Ruger Single Six...although I'm not positive on that since I didn't hold a magnet up to it to verify. That one is just like a brand new gun but no box either. It doesn't even have the slightest hint of a cylinder drag line so I'm guessing it has probably never even been fired.

Any of these stick out like a exceptional deal or are they priced about what they are worth? Any recommendations are very much appreciated!

The prices on the S&Ws sound reasonable.

I personally would buy the Ruger in .30 Carbine and the Colt Huntsman, since they seem to be the best deals, to me at least. (You did not put in the price on the Colt New Frontier.)

The Colt Huntsman especially looks like a screaming deal. Not so sure on the Blackhawk in .30 Carbine, but I just think it would be neat to have a handgun so chambered.

If I was really flush, I would probably buy the M28 and the M629 as they seem to be fairly priced.

Suggested retail price on that Ruger .30 cal. carbine is $525.00. Looks like a pretty good deal. I too would like a revolver in that caliber.

You could try a single price for the whole lot. That way he get's one check for all and you can knock off enough to move the ones you don't want. Be careful you don't offer more than you can sell the leftovers for.

Good luck on your good fortune!

seems pretty much retail prices to me on the S&W's the 629 sounds like the best deal of the bunch, maybe the 41 depending on vintage or if with comp

the GP100 is also not a bad deal if you like Rugers

In my neck of the woods those prices would be reasonable. Perhaps a little high, but not enough to be out of line. On the 586 and the 15 I'd offer $50 less for each.
Could be that the old boy is just allowing himself some haggle space on those prices. Make him an offer and see what he says.

These are two I would buy. Great price IMO.

My first handgun was a Colt New Frontier .22. I was 11, and bought it with paper route money. It has the magnum cylinder, also. I have had it for 36 years.

Anyway, I think the grip frame may be plastic.

Great gun.

Max out your CC and grab them all except the Taurus, those are good fair prices. Now if this were Ca. they would be a steal.
Good luck

I think that all of the Smiths are about $50 to high.In another year they want be.

The New Frontier is the all blued version and only has a .22LR cylinder with it.

I'm not super wealthy or anything like that, but I do have the means to buy the whole lot without having to do something stupid like put it on a credit card, or sell anything, etc. I really appreciate any info you guys can offer since I'll hopefully be making him an offer in the next few days. He's a nice old guy but he's anything but dumb. I feel he might be willing to move a bit on some of the prices (maybe $50 at absolute most per gun)...but he does seem to know roughly what they are worth and doesn't intend to just give them to me simply because I'm his friendly neighbor down the street.

I'm presuming this is a measuring error since this would be a very unusual 28-2 because the barrel length should be either 4 or 6 inches.

As for prices, well, I'd say they were all a bit on the high side by $50. to $100. at least for my part of the World.

Joe, amigo, it's .30 Carbine. Farmer17 also said .30-06. As is, folks complain about blast and flash!

For those who contend that all these prices are $50 high, please tell me where I can buy a Colt Huntsman in the condition described for $300 or less!
