I was going through old gun receipts the other day and came across one from April 1989. I bought a SW '1917' (as written on the invoice) in .44 special serial number 80334 for the princely sum of $275. As I remember the revolver was in extremely nice shape with what I remember as original grips. Barrel length was (I think) 5" or thereabouts. I traded it along with a post war heavy duty .38-44 6" and a 1917 .45 for a mint condition Trapdoor rifle which in turn went for something that I can't remember. What model was the '1917' .44 and what is the going rate these days?

Old memories....

If that revolver had no ejector rod shroud, it was a 2nd Model Hand Ejector.

However, the serial number doesn't fit a prewar N frame. If it came from the frame, under the yoke, it was an assembly number.

If the number was on the butt, it should have had an "S" prefix and would have been a 4th Model Hand Ejector Military (fixed sights). This would have had an enclosed ejector rod and a short action.

I don't think it had the ejector shroud.
