...and other things found on the road.

Many years ago I saw cash in the middle of the road... stopped... backed up... and got out to pick it up... it was a twenty dollar bill - my lucky day... bent over to get it and ripped my pants... cost me $27 to replace the pants... oh well... the story had to be worth at least $7 right???

Heh heh, at least you didnt have an audience.:D

I didn't get to keep it.
I was driving on the freeway when a p/up passed me and it looked like it had a new in boxes washer and dryer. I noticed the boxes jumping around and the tail gate was missing so I dropped way back as the truck sped away.
Suddenly I saw one of the boxes bounce off the back of the truck and it landed straight up sliding down the road. I saw the truck soon making a turn around to come back and get it.
I laughed and thought he probably told his wife he got a scratch and dent deal. Who knows since it landed straight up it might not have been damaged.

On my way to work one afternoon (I worked seconds).
Traveling on I-70 westbound and the truck in front of me
suddenly changes lanes to the left real quickly. (Three lanes
wide at this point.) All of a sudden i'm staring at a full size
washing machine or dryer? right in the middle of the Highway.
I saw it in time i could quickly change lanes as well.
But the Semi behind me swerved to miss it he cut off another
car that went out of control hitting first the inside then the
outside retaining walls and flips over.
I got to view all this thru my rearview mirror. Scary !!
This washer/dryer had fallen off a truck "i guess", right where
our lanes were going under an overpass and just as we entered
the first few exits to Indianapolis. Cement on both sides.

Kinda' scary to be doing 70 MPH and suddenly look up to see
a washing machine right in front of you.

Many years ago I was riding my bike to my daughter's house when I spotted some bills on the shoulder. I stopped and followed a trail of bills to a wallet. There was several hundred dollars. When I reached my daughter's I showed everyone the money. I asked my grandson what should I do with it. His immediate answer was " you should return it Grandpaw".:o

It turned out a minimum wage guy had just gotten paid and had left his wallet on top of his car when he refueled.

The most common item I see on the roads are the ratchet style tiedown straps. Obviously not tied down that well

WELL I did have an audience.... wife was in passenger seat and son was in the back seat... both laughing to the point of tears when I got back to the car... OH WELL... if you can't laugh at yourself, what is the point of doing stupid things...

A trooper friend of mine found a Browning 50 caliber machine gun barrel along a highway. Called National Guard and they said was not theirs.
I helped him sell it to Springfield Armory.

I had driven from Phoenix to South Rim Grand Canyon to check on the progress of one of my construction jobs. I left the next morn on the return. I found right in the middle of my lane a young lady wrapped in a blanket. I stopped and asked if she needed help. She had been crying a bunch but had dried up. She said she need to get to Phoenix as that was her destination and she had relatives there. She got in and it was apparent that she was naked under the blanket. Her story was that she was hitchhiking from Chicago to Phoenix and two young men picked her up in Colorado. She said they took her to just outside the South Rim village and raped her. They then took all her clothes, shoes, backpack, purse, ID and left her only with the old blanket. I took her to the PD in Flagstaff and walked her inside. That was the last I saw or heard of her. I also gave her $20 for some clothes and food. Sad story. ...

I have found a few things over the years. flashlights, channel lock pliers, a few loose dollars.
