ankle holster

I have an Alessi model but the one I have was made by Lou Alessi prior to his passing. If the quality of the company is still the same you can't go wrong with one of his products.

Have one for my 642 and had one for a Glock 26, that I gave to a coworker. Both had been in service for 15+ years and only the Glock model had to have the velcro replaced.

Comfortable and Quality!

I don't tell anyone how to carry their personal defense tools so all I'll note here is that, yes, an ankle holster takes getting used to and, also, it's probably IMHO the worse possible way to carry a concealed handgun. I think it's real utility is for uniformed officers and their backup guns, or maybe undercover personnel, but not as a primary concealment device for an average citizen carrying a handgun concealed, be it a tiny Ruger LCR, a J-frame, or any such small handgun. You're a member of the fraternity of blue bloods so I imagine you actually know all this but I feel obligated to say it, anyway, even if just for the non-LEOs out there.

Just my two cents.

Very happy with my Gould and Goodrich ankle holster with an all steel j-frame. Secure and comfortable, got used to the weight quickly.

I agree with the advice above, very slow to get to. I consider it more "gun storage"....I have a gun available to me but know it will take a bit to get into action. Sometimes it's an ankle holster or nothing for me....I'll take slow over nothing every time.

I agree that the ankle is one of the worst locations for an only gun. However, it is one of the best for a second gun. When seated in a car, it is probably THE most accessible location. When seated elsewhere, it is probably one of the most unobtrusively accessible locations.

442? Renegade! Most other ankle guns? Renegade.

Thanks to Yoda for the cautions, warnings, and shortcomings of this "worst of all" carry locations. I couldn't agree more.

The other problem reference the holster choice is the 442 does not have an exposed hammer. This gun design limits the available choices a good bit as most of the holsters have a retention strap or thumb break of some kind.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Got to agree with 326MOD10 on the Alessi. I have a "pre-passing" setup for my Kahr MK9 that is perfect for its intended use. Backup or vehicle use.

Got to agree w/ Model520Fan.

I have a Desantis and its pretty good, but next time I'm buying a Renegade.

I bought a DeSantis ankle holster when the Galco was sold out. My first DeSantis ankle rig was for my 40 Shield. I now carry my 642CT in a DeSantis ankle holster also. Works great, looks like the Galco, has the thumb break for retention and I wear it alot of days for over 14 hours. Good Luck on whatever you buy

Riflemann-
Which model Desantis ankle rig are you using? I asked them about using their rigs with the CT LG-305 laser on my 640 & they said it would not fit.

Been wearing a Don Hume ankle holster for a J frame for almost 20 years. I first had carried a M37 in in on my left ankle, but due to old age switched to a M442 on my right leg.

Never had to use the guns, but after about a half hour, it felt natural and I carried with the Don Hume everyday.

PS: I wouldn't get an ankle holster without a garter suspender. They are very stable.

Skip Ritchie took over the old Alessi shop ( he worked with Lou when he was alive ) same quality customer service and excellent designs
