Well! Resistance was futile! I got this one off GB for $249.99 plus freight and taxes. It is tight, bore is mirror, all numbers match (I could only see two numbers on the right grip and they matched). There are no S&W logos on the revolver. There is no "Made in U.S.A." This S&W came out of Northern Arkansas. Serial number is 77812 which the book says was manufactured between 1915 and 1941. Can anyone here date this oldtimer? My guess is around 1917.

Three boxes of 32-20 factory ammo came into our gun show this weekend here in Flagstaff and were priced at $ 60.00 abox. They sold immediately and repriced at $100.00 and sold again.
Glad I sold my 32-20 years ago.

Terry

I just loaded some up for about 8 bucks per 50. Reused brass and my own cast bullets!

It lightly sips components if you reload!

I too have one of those paperweights

Nice find and a nice price. Mine is in the same category as yours (Model of 1905, 4th change) and serial number 105093 which Roy says shipped October 1921.

I really like the feel and balance of this gun. Just like an old K22 Masterpiece. Unfortunately (for me) I'm not a reloader and even if I was, there seems to be no components and for sure no factory ammo around here. I still hit the estate and farm sales, LGS's and watch the local adds...but...alas...zip, zero, nada.

Local gun shows??? If someone has a mold for the complete 32-20 cartridge, then fill the mold with beef jerky and you would be close to what the gun shows around here have to offer.

Enjoy that shooter if you get the chance.

They are like potato chips, you just can't have one. I bought a 6 incher like that to convert to a 32/20 Target, I didn't want to use a collectible one.

PS, Wouldn't know 3 months after I had that revolver made, one became available on this site and after looking since '99 I finally got a pristine 32/20 Target.

Mine is a 5" made in 1913. Most of the finish is still there but turned to brown in a few places. Not a perfect gun but still good enough to show the old time quality and workmanship that S&W and Colt revolvers of the day are known for, It is also a great shooter with a very nice DA pull.

With the brass shortage right now reloading for 32-20 can be a challenge. I fired 100 rds of WW factory ammunition when I bought this gun in 1987. I put that gun and the empty brass away until a few years ago. I bought a set of RCBS Cowboy dies, 100 pcs Starline brass and used some of the Acme 98 gr cast SWC that I had for my .32 S&W Long.

For my last run I used 115 gr cast bullets with AA# 5. Data was from Lyman Cast Bullet manual. Works good in my S&W.

It is fun to keep these old calibers going.
