Well heck! I couldn't help myself and bought another 455 MKll converted to 45 Colt. Hopefully someone will provide insights on this gun!:)

I am not sure about the conversion to 45 Colt-the cylinder still has the serial number and the crossed pennant marking. The chambers have not been counter bored for the 45 Colt, and the recoil lug looks unaltered also.

King front sight, prewar 2 screw rear sight.
Numbers all match except the grips.:D
It has had the sideplate replaced, looks like a good fit.

It has British (?) markings in 3 spots. I haven't taken off the rear sight yet-it bows upward in the middle.

And finally the grips which are serial numbered 47765. I find these interesting-looking at the SWSC in the Registered Magnum section I see that #47769 is attributed to General George Van Orden. My grips are 4 numbers earlier. They have no patent markings on the inserts, are these an earlier or later style?

Thanks
Ed

Another 455 MK11

Ed, I think you are trying to corner the market ! It looks to be another very interesting one. Where did you find this one? Any of the usual suspects? I will be in Lewiston Wed., two doctors appointments, if we get a chance I'll stop by. Catch you later. Dave

I bet those grips are worth more than the gun. I wonder if the recoil shield was shaved to accept the 45 colt rim?

Gosh darn it Dave! You caught me, I was a little embarrassed to be buying another! Steve's. Hope to see you on Wednesday. You can see the oak floor I refinished!

It will be interesting to know whether or not the rear sight numbers to the gun.

Obviously, those grips once held a grip adapter.

Yes, they were a little crudely inletted for the grip adaptor. I wonder how the factory inletted the grips? I suppose the factory grip adaptors were all full length instead of the tabs? That rear sight has a lot of bluing on it, just like the side plate, I'll see if I can't pull it off tomorrow and photograph it.
