I just can't keep away from K frames especially a p&r 66. This -1 has a serial prefix of 50K so I'm thinking 1978. Regardless I'm glad I came across it and decided to put these presentation grips I bought off here not too long ago as it came to me with Pach grips on it. Also got to put a few rounds of .38 through it today and couldn't be happier. It shows just enough wear to not scare me away from putting it in a holster now and then. I'll be gifting my late dad's 686 no dash to my older son soon so I need something to take its place haha.

So how many do you own now? That is a beaut!

Love my 66-1. Love the stainless finish of that era!

This is 1 of 3 guns purchased for $400.00. Sold the other 2 for $450.00. Did pretty good on that deal. June, 2002.
66-3 SN: BFT13xx
First 66 bought new in 1974 costing $150.00. The model 60 cost $110.00. Both were purchased for LEO duty. Both sold out of severe economic hardship. Was happy to get another.
Tried to post a photo, but site demanded a 'url.' No idea what the x that is.

Sounds familiar I bought a 66 and a model 60 in 1980 to start my police career for $357.00. They were brand new in the box from Baileys house if guns near Houston Texas. I’m sure the cadet class got a special deal on the guns. I still have both of them and shoot them occasionally. I plan to gift it to my son in the near future.

Started in 1971 on Marthas Vineyard MA. with the ocean salt air to contend with. I purchased, through the dept. a 66 and a 60. Both were under $150 each but I can't remember the exact price. My 66 must have been a no dash since it had the plain stainless sights. i wasn't into any of the collecting stuff so I don't remember the dash number etc. I had a while outline rear sight and a red insert put on it. A set of Herrett Jordan Troopers and an action job. I carried it for 9 years and brought it to CO. with me. I sold it to one of my Deputies and purchased a 2.5" 66 since I was mostly in plain clothes at that time. When I moved to Cedaredge to become Chief of Police there, I found out that the female deputy was now working in the jail in my county. I met with her in an attempt to purchase my old 66 back but she had sold it. Bummer!

Bought my 2 1/2" 66-1 new in 1978. Still have it and still carry it, in the winter. It developed some end shake after decades of abuse (shooting massive amounts of 125 gr. 357) but Brownells shims took care of that.

My 66 ND is dated to 1974 per the S&W Std Cat. Many years ago 357 mag loads were shot through it and the cylinder loosed up it - too much movement axially. The local gunsmith, was a retired S&W armorer, stated the 66's were too light weight to handle the 357 mag loads and to only use 38 special or 38 special + loads. He install shims, i believe, around the cylinder and reworked the trigger - actually installed a target trigger. Has anyone had issues with their 66 showing loosen?
