Last summer I picked up a Model 12 factory nickeled 2” gun that was sold to the store. Had a Barami Hip Grip on it and it took a while to find a pair of factory grips for it. Figured one Airweight was enough.

So a couple of days ago what comes into the store? This time a blued 12-1, 2”, almost perfect bluing and the grips are serialized to the gun as a bonus. No box though.

I called a friend and offered it to him before it hit the showcase, he declined.
I said to a co-worker “I don’t need it, don’t want it” and he said “sure you don’t” Well by the time the day was over it was on the employee layaway table with my name on it.

This is why I don't work in a gun shop. I would end up paying them more than they paid me! :D

I have two 2", a flat latch blue and a nickel. Also a blue 4". They are great guns. If someone wants a lightweight carry revolver, but doesn't like the small size of a J frame, they are perfect.

There’s never anything good at a gunshop.
You’re picking thru the leftovers. If the employees don’t grab it, the every day scalpers will. I’d be more loyal to the local gunshop if that didn’t go on.
Rural King has gun stuff on sale? I don’t feel bad about buying there.

The shop owner or the managers have final say whether or not an employee can buy a used gun. Usually they want it on the floor for thirty days before it’s employee sale eligible.

On the other side of the coin a couple of years ago I ordered a gun when it’s release was announced. Two months later it arrived. Day it came in a customer came in, just heard about it and wanted to see one. We hadn’t received the ones for stock as demand was greater than their inventory available for shipping. Anyhow, he wanted one badly, very badly in fact.

So, I made a tactical decision and sold him mine as I hadn’t started paperwork on it. Made him happy, me not so much as it was another two months until my replacement one came in.

Round butt or square butt?

Have two Model 12 snubs, one is a minty diamond grip SB, the other is well worn CCW that I round butted,

Btw if you ever need wood stocks for a Model 12 you can always sand down a set of Model 10 grips on the inside or better yet fit a set of the older style service stocks which will need no sanding .

Might have to give the older style service stocks a try.

I carefully checked this gun over for any cracks in the frame area, no evidence of anything. Only thing, it looks like at sometime it may have fallen from a pocket or holster as there is one spot on the cylinder that has a roughness that indicates an impact, maybe concrete?

I know not to use +P loads in those. What are you using in yours? While I don’t shoot those on a daily basis I don’t want to take the chance of turning them into a wallhanger. I’m kind of on the fence about making this one my grocery shopping gun.

For practice I use my reloads. Not +P and not nerf loads. For carry I use the out of production Federal Nyclad 125gr non +P. I bought a few boxes years ago when it was still in production and cheap.
I refuse to let them be wall hangers, but I don't try to prematurely wear them out with the latest death ray ammo.
A side story. I wanted one in 2", but could only find a 4" in great shape. After buying it I found the nickel 2". Then the blue 2". I had heard all the horror stories about the frames cracking , so I decided to run some hot +P through the 4". Granted it was only 50 rounds, but the gun was unfazed. So I am not too worried about it.
Also, I can recall the original Colt Viper with the aluminium frame. I was always intrigued, but never got one. When I heard Colt was reintroducing it I thought great. As you know the new ones aren't lightweight frames. I then had a "duh" moment and remembered my 4". It is great for carry and has the longer barrel for the added sight radius. Keep an eye out for one.
Also, if you are interested in pocket carry, A bobbed hammer would be a plus. If you watch for some of the de-milled kits, you can get a narrow hammer to bob, and still have your original.
