So the wife and I have been taking a few classes up at our range. She has her FS9, I have my FS40. The last two classes focused alot on trigger reset. As is well known, the M&P trigger reset isnt great. I actually got harassed by one instructor about how bad it is in my 40. So Ive been contemplating the APEX DCAEK. While researching on their website, it says it reduces the trigger pull, and can improve the trigger reset. They also sell just a RAM kit, for only $23, which is supposed to be night and day difference in trigger reset. My question is, has anyone put in both, or would you recommend the RAM only? I have no problem with my current trigger pull, but it is very gritty, as is the wife's 9. I also have been wondering about the Smith & Wesson M&P Pistol Action Package they offer through the performance center. For about the same price, I could get both APEX kits. I just dont know if I really need to spend more than the $23 if all I want is a better reset. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

the RAM is awesome. Such a positive reset now.

I did the RAM, and i loved it, then i did the dcaek and it is just so much nicer all around. At least do the ram. have you watched APEX's videos on YouTube? They have one for the RAM.

The gritty feel usually comes from a rough striker block, or one that shifts slightly from center when the trigger is depressed.

If you don't want to change the actual trigger feel, you could just get the Apex Ultimate Striker Block.

You'd probably find it much smoother without any lightening of the trigger. You could also just remove the stock striker block and polish it to see if that would remove the grit. You have to take the rear sight off for either one.

Like gregm I also installed the RAM first. Very easy to do and it helped me prep for what I would later purchase, the FSS kit. Keep in mind, the RAM currently does not work w/ a manual safety. They're working on that one.

I second the Ultimate Striker Block (which comes w/ the AEK's and FSS btw). Just by simply rounding and polishing the striker block it'll actually make the trigger pull seem lighter by reducing friction. It almost makes you wonder why S&W didn't think about that during design.

I absolutely understand your desire to spend as little as possible. I was that way too, which is why I started w/ only the RAM. But I soon realized that the $$$ for the FSS kit would be $$$ well spent. I'll never go back to the stock trigger. And anyone w/ a M&P who will listen I will give the same advice: Apex Tactical Specialties will make your gun better!

If a better feeling reset is all you're after then the RAM will do what you are looking for. The only thing you may notice is when you slowly let the trigger out trying to find that reset you may hear two clicks instead of one. This is normal with a stock M&P but I believe installing the DCAEK is what gets rid of the double click not the RAM. It's all preference and what you hope to achieve and spend. The great thing about Apex parts is they are all drop in and can be used in many combinations to create the result you are looking for.

I just had the DCAEK and RAM put in my FS 9mm and it makes a world of difference. I now have a very smooth 5.5 trigger pull and the reset is very defined now. The gunsmith who did mine did tell me he put just the RAM in another M&P and it made a difference in the trigger and reset. I'm going to try just that in my FS .45 and see what happens.

i installed the RAM a few months ago to gain that obvious reset on the trigger and it does serve it's purpose. Yesterday I installed the DCAEK on top of the RAM and what a world of difference. The reset is more pronounced and the gritty trigger travel is gone. The best part is trigger jerk is virtually eliminated due to the shorter trigger travel after the break.

Thanks everyone! Great feedback. I may just go ahead and get both kits and put them in her 9 first to see how they both do, and maybe only get the RAM for mine. I appreciate all the info!

Just watch, you'll try out hers and then you'll try yours. Then you'll swap pistols behind her back. HAHA

Masterorion9 - funny you said that... She has been shooting my 40 alot more lately, and keeps talking about stealing it from me. It wont be too bad though if she does, as I have a 357 sig and a 45 to fall back on :)

Just 10 minutes ago I installed the Apex RAM. It only took about 10 minutes to install, including watching the video first (I actually do it along with the video and pause it until I catch up). I have to say... it's awesome! I love the positive reset I get now! I already installed the DCAEK last week, which was also fairly simple to do. This trigger rocks, now! The difference the DCAEK made in my accuracy was amazing. Now, with the audible/tactile reset, I hope to get my point of aim and fire off the next shot even quicker.

These Apex aftermarket pieces are WELL worth the money! I think I'll get the AEK trigger next, but not for a while. The trigger, as it is now, is pretty darn sweet.

has anyone encountered the internal lock in sear block where the reset assist cam and spring or [RAM] are supposed to go ?? duz anyone know if this can be driven out, and then replaced with new APEX RAM kit. already did the full DCAEK and that rock's me at bout 5.5 lbs. butt I need my audio turned on. I'm new here and pretty green on posting -n- threads. Could someone give this wisconsin tree-billy a good word. Thank's fellow American's

ILS lock removal

The ILS can be removed from the sear block by using a hammer and punch to push it out from the back (right side of sear block). I removed one this way from a replacement sear block I ordered.

Here is my opinion on shooting a FS9 with DCAEK and later installing the RAM.

The DCAEK does improve the *felt* reset. It is not a strong reset like you would feel in a GLOCK. Installing the RAM on top of the DCAEK did nothing to improve the *felt* reset. It did improve it *audibly*. In other words you just hear a louder *click*. There are other benefits to installing the RAM, but if you are looking for tactile improvement over the DCAEK in terms of reset, I did not observe it in my weapon.

If you are looking for a better feeling reset, try bending the trigger bow a little. I get a nice audible/feeling click.
