OK, other than the lack of a safety/decocker is there any difference between the slide of a Model 5943 and a 5906? It looks like all the other differences should be down in the receiver, but I'm wondering whether there is any difference in the grooves or rails in the slide, or whether a safety could be added and the slide used on a SA/DA receiver?

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and Merry Christmas to all!

Fifty five views and no responses? I can't believe I've asked a question that no one has asked (and had answered) before.

Let me restate my question... suppose I were to take a Model 5943 slide and a 5906 slide and then I completely stripped both bare. Would there be a significant difference between the bare slides? It seems logical that there would not be, but am I missing something??

Thanks again for looking,

I do not have a DAO 9mm slide in front of me, but I believe that the DAO slides are longer behind area where the decock assembly goes, as are the receivers in the corresponding area to conceal more of the DAO hammer, and would hang over the back of the receiver; I also think the cuts for the decocking lever are missing on the DAO slides, don't know about the spring detents.

Grooves and rails on underside of TDA (DA/SA) and DAO slides are the same.

DAO slides will "work" on a TDA frame but are approx. 5/16" longer in the rear than TDA slides so will hang over the end of the frame in an unsightly manor.

(DAO frames are longer in the rear than TDA frames to mate with the longer slide. This was done to shroud the partially cocked hammer.)

Also, the hole in the DAO slide for the "firing pin retainer" (where the safety body goes on a TDA slide) will NOT accept the TDA safety body.

It would be possible to "shorten" (by grinding/filing) the rear of the DAO slide to match the TDA frame contour.

Installing TSW DAO trigger, hammer, and "spacer" (DAO replacement for the sear release lever) would then provide you with a "DAO 5906" (or 639) if it was worth the work to you.

Of course, if you were willing to go to all that trouble to make a 5943 slide work, you could more easily just install a TSW DAO firing pin retainer in your 5906 slide, and with the substitution of the aforementioned TSW DAO trigger, hammer, and spacer, you could then have a "DAO 639" without modifying a 5943 slide.

Merry Christmas!
