The SS agent saw the barrel and scope sticking out of the bushes and 'immediately engaged' the shooter, who ran off. Witnesses saw him jump into a black Nissan and even got a picture of it.

Not sure who is really in charge or what to believe from what we are told. Glad Mr. Trump seems to be OK.
Watch the news for more gun control BS. Hell, it was the shooter not the gun.

I'd take a Chinese SKS over an AK if I was looking for accuracy with 7.62x39.

OK, the DHS was supposedly formed so everyone would share threat intelligence. Good in theory. Probably doesn't totally eliminate parochial issues.
That said, USSS was originally part of the Treasury Department as their first mission was to fight counterfeiting and it's now DHS. The FBI is apparently still part of the DOJ. The customs & immigration services are now DHS. Coast Guard????
Result: we now have another government department stocked with high GS number paper shufflers that have to be paid. I'm getting the feeling that the administrative tail is eating more budget that should be going to the mandated taskings. The fighting over shares of the budget pie are likely worse.

This investigation is being handled by the FBI. Pretty sure they are still under the doj
DOJ, DHS or any alphabet agency is not to blame...the staff that run the assisted living facility that refuse to order the proper level of protection are to blame, the same level of protection that their boss has. For this to happen a second time is unconscionable, and I blame the people that could, and should, have ordered the same level of protection a sitting president gets.
