I'm sure we are all aware of the great quality of every ken Burns series he has ever done. But the one I just watched moved me emotionally and informed me greatly on a subject I thought I was pretty well up on. And I was wrong about that!

It may not sound like it would be very interesting. But remember now, it's by Ken Burns.

Country Music.

there are several discs and we watched the fist one last night. even if you are not a fan of country music but especially if you are you should watch this. You will learn a lot about how music in this country evolved and where it came from and the people that moved it along.

Narrated by Peter Coyote with commentary by Dolly Parton, Marty Stewart, Merle Haggard, Vince Gill, and Rodney Corwell, Roseann Cash and maybe a few I can't think of right now.

I think this is the best Ken Burns series I have seen and I've seen 'em all.

Seriously, Don't miss this'n. We got it on disc from Netflix

I have watched a dozen, or more, of his splendid documentaries and list "Country Music", "The Civil War", "Jazz" and "Baseball" at the top.

Yessir! Until Country Music, The Civil War was my favorite. I learned a lot in that one too. It's the deep deep knowledge you get in his documentaries that make it so great. And the great presentation....what can I say.....

I loved the Ken Burns documentary The Civil War and the way he used the late Shelby Foote. It seemed so free of the revisionist BS.

I agree, I think it's his best yet. I purchased the DVD disk set and have been loaning it out to friends.

Explain to this Yankee what the deal is with peanuts in a Coke. Never had it and it doesn’t sound all that good.

To a lot of folks it the sweet/salty combination. Actually putting the peanuts in the coke instead of just eating the peanuts while drinking the coke is probably just a cultural thing.

Kinda like you Yankees putting brown gravy on chicken fried steak instead of cream gravy. :p :D

Sort of a Southern thing. Kids have been doing it forever. Nothing special about Coke, a bottle of any cola will do. Just dump a cellophane pouch of peanuts into the bottle. Of course today, not many drink soda out of a bottle, and the idea doesn't work so well in a can, as you can't see the peanuts float. Closely related is the Moon Pie and RC Cola experience.

I watched The Civil War doc three times and have since got the 3 volume set by Shelby Foote to dive even deeper and keep events straight.

BTW, there are more than a few Shelby Foote interviews on youtube right now. Such a beautiful speaking voice!
