There's been another discovery within the new ATF rules on pistol braces that should be considered. It is potentially something that could affect hundreds of thousands of gun owners if they possess a foreign made pistol that has a brace installed on it either by the manufacturer or the importer.

In essence the ATF states that simply removing the brace is not an option to bring that firearm into compliance. It has to do with this being considered a violation of the 922(r) ruling which prevents any semi-automatic rifle from being assembled with 10 or more imported parts. According to the ATF simply removing the 922(r) related parts will not cure the violation because the assembly had already been done.

The only option open is to either turn in the firearm or destroy it. Pistols are not affected by the 922(r) rule, but rifles are. So if you own a foreign made pistol with a brace and that brace was installed either by the manufacturer or the importer, according to this finding, there is no way to bring it into compliance under this new rule change. It must be either turned over to the ATF or destroyed.

I am not a lawyer so do the research and make up your own mind about this. Most of this discussion is available on page 246 of the ATF rule change description. You can also find a video in the link below as well as others popping up now that this new bit of information has been found.

Do the research before you make up your mind.

Be smart do not comply regardless what these fools put on a meaningless paper. It will soon be put out to pasture by the SC.

I don't believe I am following you. My CZ Scorpion pistol was imported as a legal pistol, meeting all said requirements for importation.

A folding brace was added. It is now a weapon of mass destruction.....:(

So, remove the brace thingy, and it is legal again. Any rifle import restrictions do not apply as this is a handgun, not a SBR, and never will be.

What am I missing?
