Another Lemon Squeezer!

Acquired an old Lemon Squeezer from my Grandmother in-law...Top-Break .38 S&W 3.25" pitted what used to be nickel plating....serial number 9574

It's been sitting for probably 30 years. Seems to function well. I don't plan on shooting it. One side of grip is chipped.

Just wondering what the approximate age would be. Thanks.

Looks like you've got a .38 Safety, 2nd model. I'm putting this in the 1887-1888 timeframe.

Let me know if you're looking to sell this gun. I've had my eye open for one of these.

Just out of curiosity ... do you know if someone took this gun apart and used a wire wheel on the exterior surfaces? The transition between the frame and the side plate looks to be very pronounced.

Mike, There's no doubt the gun has been refinished, in my opinion. Ed.

I do not know the history of the gun. All I know is it was purchased used in the 60's for self defense against a very curious stalker! She claims to have only fired several rounds into the ground soon after purchasing it.

The finish, although worn and used, appears pretty uniform. The poor pictures may be misleading.

I have a 1st model (DA) like that, 1880, 3-digit, and it shoots just fine. I have a Safety Hammerless .38 ,1890, that runs just like it was meant to.
As long as it is in time and the action functions, there's no reason not to give it a little workout. Don't go nuts with it, just prove that it has a few more left in it. Then keep it for a rainy day.
It would appear that firstmodel would relieve you of that thing if you were so inclined.
They are decent pieces of real history, and are fairly popular among
revolver guys.
