Saw this one in a LGS last week, and couldn't get it out of my mind. It wasn't a bargain, but it was a fair retail price, and I don't often see pristine nickel model 19s come along, so I bought it. Now of course I will need to take it to the range, then get some Grashorns and some leather.

Can anyone give me an approximate birthdate? 19-4, serial no. 28K5xxx. Thanks in advance.

A very beautiful example of S&W engineering and mfg. And if I might add, the composition and setting for the photograph is very artistic.

Thanks all. No box/papers on this one, but it almost looks unfired. There are no case marks on the recoil shield, no turn line, and only faint rings on the cylinder face. No finish scratches, and no marks on the stocks. Just couldn't pass this one up.

snw19_357, any idea how early? I have a 4 inch blued Model 19 from approximately 1976, and wonder if they are from the same year.

Can't get any more accurate than Mr. Wonderful except I'd guess maybe 1978 but probably early 1979.

A 1976 Model 19 should be a 19-3.

Sorry, I meant 1978. Darned IPad keyboard. This is a good incentive to purchase the Standard Catalog of S&W, which I have been planning to do forever. Thanks again.

Took it to the range at lunch today, and have no buyers remorse. This thing shoots as good as it looks. I was amazed how easy it is to shoot accurately despite the short barrel. I shot mostly .38 specials. But I also tried a few 158 gr .357s, and it was scary accurate with that round. Recoil with the .357s was noticeable, but very manageable. Overall very pleased with this one.
