Hi folks,

I know these threads are a dime a dozen, but have been lurking here for a little while and wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.

I picked up my Sport about a week ago. I am new to the platform, but not to guns in general. Haven't gotten to shoot it yet, but I did get a chance to do a color fill just for S&G's.

I only have one question for now, although I am sure I will have plenty later. What is a good way to preserve the finish on the outside of the gun? Will a general gun conditioner work or is there something else that you guys have found works better?

Pics below - for now she is dressed up in a quad rail, UTG med VFG, and a Streamlight TLR-1 - with a bit of artistic camera effect thrown in...

Most any quality gun oil, applied via a cloth and rubbed into the metal, will keep a good protective coat on it.

Congrats on your Sport purchase and welcome to the forum.

I didnt see the pics show up but we are glad to have you join us..:D

Welcome aboard! Congrats on acquiring your first AR15.

I'm not too worried about the exterior finish of the gun. I just wipe it down with a cotton rag lightly moistened with a lubricant (Ballistol).

Oh these threads are not a dime a dozen, a lot of us live vicariously through the thrill of remembering when we got ours, when someone posts they got their new one. The excitement and just plain fun of shooting that brand new S&W is something that is infectious and we all have the disease. :D

Couldn't have said it better.

Welcome Aboard. Stay Safe and Good Shooting.

Leave it in the box? But that's no fun ;-)

Yes, M&Ps are fun. My son got one a couple of months ago and then I got one too. It's gotten me into rifle shooting, something I've never done much of before. I even built a 50 and 100 yard range close to the house.

As a new sport owner I get it! Welcome. Lots of knowledgeable people here. :)

Yeah I have a as far as I can see range behind the house!! Or as far as I can get my nephews to carry the jammit target stand or gongs out. I shot some tracers one day just to see how far they will go, it was fun to see the wind take them about 1/2 mile and curve them and then bounce when they hit the ground

So that's how the PDog's learned how to duck and cover. :o

Well I'm glad to hear that you all don't get sick of seeing these new M&P threads. I know when I first started lurking here I enjoyed reading all the new guy with new gun threads mainly to see what kind of new guy questions they were asking that I could learn from.

I really envy you guys with the nearby or backyard ranges. At one point I lived in an area (N. Idaho) where I could do that. Now I'm living in Rhode Island, and limited to either the public ranges (which are closed something like 7 months out of the year) or local gun clubs (where atleast I can shoot year round). I plan on joining our local club ASAP so I can get this sport out to shoot. It's pricey, but there seems to be many benefits to joining besides just access to the range.
