Picked up my new M&P 22 and took it right to the range without even cleaning it. Put 100 rounds of CCI mini-mag hollow points and it worked 100%.

I didn't know the barrel was already threaded for a suppressor! Too bad the wrench included couldn't break it loose before bending and mangling up the thread protector. Had to use pliers to get it off. Bought a Gemtech adaptor to screw on. Have yet to test with the suppressor though.

Impressions are it shoot and handles like a lighter M&P 40. Hate the huge safety though, it interferes with my thumb hitting the slide release.

I pick mine up in a couple days.

The first thing i'm doing is removing the safety levers. The second thing is installing my new 10-8 sights.

Properly stole this from the internet for ya:

1- field strip
2- remove the both roll pins through the frame (1 the rear, is the one that you remove to install the Apex sear) there are ONLY 2 so not confusing
3- lift the entire assembly out of the polymer frame (nothing falls out so don't worry)
4- remove the safety lever (just pulls off)
5- reassemble

has anyone actually done this with both levers? Google search only yielded someone who did it with 1 lever and left in the other side somehow. I did it on a 9c but want to make sure it will work on the 22 since the insides are reportedly different. Thanks

My levers came off as soon as I got it out of the box.

The 'main safety bar' must remain in the rear block to allow the 'sear release' to pivot properly. It is simple to remove the parts. The square hole key on rights side of pistol is the actual piece that blocks the trigger bar. The black levers simply push on and pull off. But the whole firing assembly needs to be lifted out of the frame to pull the levers off.

CAREFUL on the left side of the frame. The indexing plate rides against a super small "U" shaped spring of some kind. The "U"-spring just sits in there...nothing holding it.

While I love the simplicity of how this pistol is assembled, it's too bad they engineered it so well where everything interacts with something else. For instance:Removing the safety entirely results in the sear release not functioning properly. Just a few custom parts away. LOL.

M&P pistols do not have a slide release what many people mistake for a slide release is actually a SLIDE STOP! While the slide stop can be operated as a slide release it does so with difficulty but it is not intended to actually do so!

Can you explain that? So on a reload you're expected to pull the slide back with off hand to release slide?

From the manual for a Shield it says "Pull the slide to the rear and release it, allowing it to carry fully forward. This strips a cartridge from the magazine and seats it in the chamber of the barrel."

So yes the suggested method of loading the weapon is to use what many call the slingshot method of racking the slide. After several rounds through your M&P it will become easier to use the slide stop as a slide release. People used to the 1911 do in fact have a slide release but on the M&P that is not the real purpose of the slide stop.

As the weapon is fired and when the magazine is empty the follower of the magazine pushes up on the slide stop and leaves the chamber open, if this does not occur it is probably either a faulty or weak spring in the magazine or an obstruction in the magazine or dirt not allowing the spring to operate properly!

Thanx for the correction. I learned something today. I actually changed back and forth in my previous post cause I wasn't sure how to properly label the slide stop.
