Another reason not to fly

Every time I rented form Hertz the counter sales rep attempted to up-sell me. I quickly got on, and pre paid for my rental. When they try and up sell, I just tell them all I want is the car I've all ready paid for and I want it NOW. Works every time. Yes, Hertz no longer the number 1 company it once was.

The last two times I've rented cars, I've experienced a variation of that. I prefer full-sized cars, so I reserved cars in the "premium" category. Since they couldn't upsell me, they they tried to downgrade me at a premium price. They offered me Nissan Altimas. No way that's a premium car, and I also had to argue that I wanted the type of car I'd paid for. In the first case, the agent responded that the Altima was a premium car. I told him that I was a car guy who'd subscribed to four different car magazines for forty years and belonged to three different car clubs, I knew my cars, and that the Altima was far from "premium". I got my full-sized car.

The second time was different. I'd reserved my premium car using my AARP discount. When I got to the counter, they told me that because I'd gotten "a deal" through AARP, I didn't deserve a full sized car and should take an Altima instead. I held my ground, and ended up with a Mercury Marquis (sadly, without the coveted De Sade option). That was 13 years ago, and I haven't rented a car since.

So didn’t you guys hear about the cell spontaneously catching fire Friday on a Southwest flight in Denver? A good friend’s husband was on the flight when it happened, they had to use the slide to evacuate. He was a little rattled to say the least. Can’t link the news story but a quick search will show some cell footage of them coming down the slide.

I used to fly quite a bit until roughly 10 years ago for work. Don’t miss it unless we’re taking international travel, then I need some help sleeping through it lol.

Maybe buying a cheap cellphone in Beirut wasn't a good idea.;)

Last time I flew in a plane was September 25th 1984. I got tired of landing on the ground before the airplane or helicopter did.
Last time I rented a car was June 1982 and never from a airport.

After being "separated" from my checked baggage on a couple flights, I learned to always throw a change of clothes and essentials in a carry-on. It kind of sucks to arrive at your destination with only the clothes on your back . . . and a book and cell phone.

When I was coming back to the mainland from Clark AB, PI, my taxi driver was late getting me to the flight line. I was boarded and then got bumped along with other GI's from the plane for caskets from Viet Nam.
My bags stayed on the plane so I had no clean clothes with me. It took me a week to finally get on a plane and fly to Frisco.
