Here is my 1st photo attemp showing my Grandfathers Reg Mag passed on to me many years ago, Reg# is 400. Barrel length of 6.5 inch, gold bead front site with square notch rear adjustable target site and having what I think are very cool stocks; I am told by our local stock maker these are made from Walrus Ivory and whoever fit them knew his trade well. I thought they were plastic at one time (shows how much I know) but they passed the hot pin test, no problem.
Update #1: another board member told me the front site is called the McGivern site with gold bead. Thanks Jim for that clarification.
Update #2: have downloaded the pdf "get a letter" form and will send to Mr. Jinks. Thanks Murphy for costing me $50. - Ha-ha (been wanting to do this for years)

Wow, your grandfather sure knew his guns. Congratulations on a great heirloom.

Texas Star: clicking the photos takes you to Photobucket.com where the photo opens large by itself; I use this site for all my website uploads and no issues, so sorry! Being new here, I have not figured out yet the method required to post photos in my text.

Color me jealous sir.
I hope one day I can pass on a gift as nice as that to my descendants.

Murphy, My G-Dad did not order this new but wish he had. He got the gun from a best friends widow sometime in the early 1940's my Dad told me and I got it in the 1960's along with his 22 Outdoorsman.

Beautiful "hand me down!" Congratulations.

We'd love to see more photos of other aspects. Particularly of the grips including the insides. The "freckles" are quite unusual for ivory I think. Perhaps they have to do with the polish that was applied. Are they visible from the insides too?

Bob, 20 yrs ago, I was told these stocks were made of Walrus Ivory thinking how cool is that? - but these past few years and the internet has changed my mind to think they are Whale Panbone, the far rear portion of the whale jaw bone and the same as what many folks long ago used to make scrimsaw although they preferred whale teeth first.
The spots we see in these stocks, both sides, look much like what I have seen in pieces of Alaskian Indian Art items said to be made of whale panbone. Whenever I see something said to be Walrus, it has few dots but lots of wavy stirations. Regardless of it all, we can just enjoy them as they are until someone swears they came from outerspace and made from something we can't imagine having lived.
