Another scam?

I got an email from Lowe’s saying I needed to update my military discount info by April 1 to be able to continue to enjoy it.
What’s to update? Nothing will ever change about my past service.
April 1 has me curious, also.
Has anyone else recieved this?

As with any suspicious e-mail, NEVER click on any links in the e-mail and don't open any attachments. Always go to the source. If in doubt, contact Lowe's directly and ask them about it.

I'd ask about it at Lowes, service counter or the manager. Bring a copy of the message printed out or on your phone.

Got the same yesterday. Like others suggested, think I’ll call Lowes.

ETA - I called Lowe's corporate. They said it's legit. They are asking people to "renew." I also looked at the headers in the e-mail. The e-mail addresses and the URL point to lowes.com.

I've never had to fill out any form or give information to Lowes I just show my drivers license which has my veterans status on the back.

The only thing they are asking you to do is verify the email address you have on file. Go to the Lowes website and do it not using the link. They don't ask for any further information. Once you sign into the site you are updated. They also advise you as of 4/1 they will be verifying address at the checkout counter, so you have to have ID with you.. Even though they have already started doing that at the lowes I shop at. The cashier said that people have been giving out their information to neighbors, etc and non Military people come to the counter and get the discount. I think they are trying to crack down on this.

I got a call from the gas company saying they were going to turn off my gas service if I didn't pay them $312.16 and I said go ahead and turn it off. She said the service termination order is in process and I would have to pay a reactivation fee and "I said go ahead and turn it off, I don't have natural gas I'm on propane you freak'n idiot!"

I completed my military service in 1969. That's 51 years ago. Don't think I'm up for a retroactive dishonorable discharge. I'll watch for the Lowes update and do it at the service counter rather than online.

It is something they do to update their records of who is authorized the discount and make sure the list they use has living people on it.

I tried to update online, but apparently discharge in 1970 needs a visit to the store. I'll take my DD214 just in case even though I have the veteran stamp on my driver's license.

The Lowes email is legit. You don't need to use the link provided, you can log on to mylowes and it does the same thing as soon as you log on to their site.

Lowe's has them selves to blame for giving the non-military people the military discount. When they went to the computer based discount, that is when the problems started. People get the military discount added to their computer profile and there it stays. There is no requirement for proof, just a look at a computer screen.

Home Depot has the military discount process "worked out". You just show the cashier your military ID card and you get the discount - no non-military people getting the discount because they don't have the required proof. Just that simple.

Sounds like the call my 92 year old mother got on Tuesday: "We are turning off your electric service for lack of payment unless you send us $500!" Except that I pay the bill for her every month on the same day the bill posts.

The good news is that the guy's thick Nigerian accent was too strong for her to get more than a word or two of what he was saying... so she eventually handed the phone to me.

In an instant, the Nigerian scammer dude was gone.

Just wander into the local VA FACILITY. DD214 in hand. Veterans ID card issued. No fee. Some day it will come in handy.
