I am just little familiar with S&W revolvers, so I need your help.

Is any Model 19 or 66, dash number, 6" barrel, that is without that flat cut, relief, on bottom of aft side of the barrel? See article How To Avoid Revolver Forcing Cone Failure | An NRA Shooting Sports Journal .

I found on forums about some late models without noted relief, but as far as I know, they are just with 4.25" barrel.

I am aware that issue regarding forced cone cracking is not very common, but since I am in EU, if something goes wrong with barrel, it will be next to impossible to get spare parts. In addition, just few gunsmith are familiar with S&W revolvers.

Thanks

YOU might be thinking of a L frame ,they don't have the flat

I know for 686. As a matter of fact, I just sold 686-3, 6" barrel. Too heavy for my taste. If there is a revolver in 357 Magnum I would like to have, it's 686, with same hammer as on 686 Target Champion, and 6" barrel configuration as on Model 27. Unfortunately, there is nothing like that. That is the reason I am considering Ruger Security Six.

I would like to have a good revolver as a backup gun and for coup de grace for wild boars. In that respect Model 29/629 with 6" barrel trifle heavier than 686 makes more sense. Or even better, Model 25, slim barrel in 45 Colt, just 42 oz.

I have a 4" Model 66 which was the last iteration when they stopped production in favour of the 619 and 620. It does not have a flat spot on the forcing cone. It's completely round just like the current generation of 4.25" barrel 66's.

Current production Model 19-9 and 66-8 do not have the flat spot on the barrel extension. The L-frame does not either, but the L-frame is a little larger than the K-frame.

Did they ever make 6" like Moo's?

Really? Would you please post a pic of your 66-7's barrel?

Wonder how they cleared the gas ring on the cylinder in the 'smaller' K frame.
