I've read a lot about the 40 shield blow-ups both here and elsewhere, but, I don't recall reading about any 9mm problems like these.
Anyone know if the 9's have also had this problem, or is it just the more powerful 40's that are involved?

Seems that it's confined to just the .40 caliber. I also don't recall any threads relating to the 9mm.
Many of the incidents seemed to be due to over-pressurized ammo.

Im not so sure it's "over pressurized " , or bullet set back, or just the possibility that the shield is at the limits of the power it can handle.
Could be caused by the slight unseen variances in product integrity / tolerances that can occur in high output manufacturing .
Quality control with several very large firearms manufactures has been very lax as of late.
I have seen QC problems even in small "custom" builders due to high demand.

My 9mm runs like a Swiss watch. No failures of any kind. Zero.

Glock went through the same problem with their .40 cals. Full size and compacts.

It's an issue with the chamber not having enough support of the casing.

The *** end side of the casing blows out.

When Glock switched their barrels to support more of the casing, the "kabooms" stopped.

The Saami pressure for 9 and 40 are the same at 35K psi max.

So why this is a .40 only problem? no idea.

Better question is, why is this a "Shield" only problem.

+1 :D
I've been on the S&W forum ever since I bought my Shield 9 in June 2012. I keep an eye on all Shield threads and I do not recall ever seeing a 9mm go boom.
