I picked up a 910 this week and today was the 1st day on the range. When I tried to disassemble it after the range the slide would not come off. Finally figured out that the guide rod had disengaged the barrel. When I looked really close at the rod the edge where it engages the barrel is worn. I need a new rod and don't want to go back with the plastic. The rod from my 4043 () same rod is used in quite a number of the 3rd gen 40's and 9mm's including the 5906) drops right in the 910 but everywhere I have looked they are out of stock so----.
Also had a puzzling other issue with it as I had several failures to eject but with white box value pack 115 grain Winchester only. It ran flawlessly with anything else I threw at it ( federal FMJ 115, Tulia Brass FMJ 115 and a ? 124 +P JHP) so ???

I have the capability to make guide rods on a limited basis. They are made by hand on manual equipment (not production CNC). They are from stainless steel and of the newer style with the separate plunger. (similar to the bottom one in the following URL)

If you haven't found another source I should be able to help you out. I don't have this model gun so you would need to send me the original guide rod so I can get the specifications (especially the length). For standard 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen models the other specs seem to be the same.

Because I have had to purchase materials and the length of time it takes to turn one out I'm asking 60 dollars per unit including postage to make it worth my time. Let me know if you are interested and we can work things out.

Thanks - Paul Howell - peh_7

Is the 910 a different length then the 3913. I went to the Numrich site and it showed that the guide rod was available for the 3913 which is the same one I bought for my 908. Recoil Spring Guide Assembly.

It uses the same size rod that the 5906 does only the stock rod is plastic. This size length rod in used in many of the 9mm and .40 3rd gens including my 4043. The 3913 rod must be a different length as the 5906 and other autos which use the same rod I need are not listed and the rod has a different part number. If it will fit some one please let me know.
It was a shock to not be able to find a new rod anywhere in stock as it is a pretty common replacement part. If something as simple as a guide rod is this hard to get means those of us who love these old 3dr gens may be in real trouble in the future on parts.

Already talked to him and $60 per is a little steep for a simple guide rod but may have to go that rout. Unnerving to say the least to have this much of an issue finding a simple recoil guide rod for one of these pistols.

Hi Ascension The rod that peh_7 makes is a one piece stainless steel drop in, It is not one of the staked rods that are $15.00. Paul also will make coustom rods for you. I have one that is 0.255" in dia. to fit inside of the flat wire springs that I use. I am now using a Prototype Rod that Paul has come up with to use in replacing 3GEN S&W dual spring units with a single spring. His workman ship is beautiful and they work.

I may well go with a couple of these in the future. Thanks to a link from a forum brother tonight I snagged a used metal 5906 rod off ebay for the 910.
I have only had it on the range a couple times now and the jury is still out on whether the 910 is a keeper or not so was trying to say on the cheap for this one for now.
Thanks guys for all the help!!!

Since I just found out it's a no-no to post live E-Bay listings. I will just say that there is another guide rod on E-Bay for a S&W Recoil Spring Guide Assembly And Spring 39,439,539,459,559,59. It's a "buy it now" for $16.99 and free shipping. Just trying to help out other 3rd gen. owners.

PROTOTYPE RECOIL ROD UPDATE

As I stated in an earleyer post I am using a peh_7 rod that Paul has come up with for replacing dual spring compacts with a single flat wire spring. There was a few modifications of the rod and it is now the way to go. I am using the finished product in all my 3rd Gen S&W 45 compacts. The 457, 4513TSW 4516 and 4516-2 and they work great. I am using ISMI FLAT WIRE SPRINGS for GLOCK models 19, 23, 25, and 32.

If you are interested in a Super Quality Recoil Guide Rod get in touch with our fourm member peh_7 PAUL HOWELL.
