During those years I had a deer dog pack I altered my 12 A5. I replaced the wood with plastic from Ramline. I got a 22 in. invector vent rib barrel. Installed an extended x-full turkey choke. Got another magazine cap. Cut the top out of it and welded on a 5 in. piece. of pipe(tubing) cut from a kitchen chair leg. Welded a washer on top to chose it off. Made it a 7 shooter (2 3/4"). Original mag spring worked fine. This was a bad axe gun with #1 buckshot in the swamps cutdowns and thickets. The "speed load" feature came in very handy. Sometimes I would use it to push the briars out of the way to go through a thick place. That A5 cause a lot deer to get a ride in the Chevy.
Now its back to wearing it walnut stock and forend. Still shoot it some on the skeet field and dove field. Last year I got invited on a dog hunt down in Hampton Co. SC and I killed a buck with it.
When I hold it or hunt with it I'm reminded of Browning's advertisement " THE BEST THERE IS".........And mine has been for the last 47 years.
BROWNING............What's not to like?........Got some long ones and short ones here too.
My only Browning long gun was an 1895 in .30-06. It was a fine shooter. I traded it towards paying for a divorce. I hated losing the Browning, but the divorce was worth it.![]()
That is AWESOME! Thank you for writing that up. Wow - what a treasure!Eric. Got one just like that(blond wood) that I paid $85.00 new in 1967. My Dad let me share crop 2 acres of watermelons with him. After buying my school clothes I had enough to buy the Browning. I still have it. In my youth I would wrap it in a towel and tie to the "boy bar" on my bicycle. It rode that way 100's of miles in the early years.
