Any Corvette owners?

We are visiting some friends in Florida. Just the other day we were coming out of Sand Key heading south towards St Pete, then on to the Hard Rock in Tampa.

We passed a house with 3 garage doors open, which caught the corner of my eye.

In each garage was a new C8, one in white, one in red, and one in grey. I know someone with two but no one with three new vettes.

Had an '05 for a short while. Literally the worst car I ever owned. Must have been built on a Friday, 'cause it was awful.

Never again, though I wouldn't mind wheeling a C8 for a few laps at the track... ;)

Never had the car but had cars with 'vette motors and parts. That 63 split window would be my choice if I was rich instead of short, ugly and poor!

Must have been an Ohio State fan...?

I wish I still had mine. '71 4-speed roadster. Sold it when my daughter was going off to college. As it turned out, she got an academic scholarship and maintained it all four years, so I could have kept it. Oh, well.

I bought my first Corvette in 1993 as a mid-life crisis car...

DSC02296.jpg

it's a 1990 (C4) Z51. In 1990 Z51's were only available as coupes and only came with 6-speed manual transmissions (ZF w/straight cut gears).

In November of 2020 I purchased a 2013 Collector's Edition 427 Convertible complete with the 60th Anniversary package. The 427's were only available with 6-speed manual transmissions...

Slide1-2021-03-28-15-09-59-UTC.jpg

The 427 is the vaunted LS7 engine, a derivative of the C5R and C6R racing programs. 505 HP and 470 lb-ft. Titanium connecting rods and intake valves, sodium filled stainless exhaust valves. Built entirely by one man, off-line. Carbon fiber hood. front fenders and floor pan.

On September 1 2021, Ida (then classed as a tropical storm) roared through our area. It dumped nine inches of rain on us in under three hours. I live in a ranch with a walk-out basement. The garage is under the house. That nine inches of rain overwhelmed the storm drains on the street and the meager trench drain in front of our garage. We got 30" of water in the garage and about 10" throughout our finished basement. It totaled the three cars parked in the garage - the anniversary Vette, my GF's BMW X1 M-line and my 2017 Chevy SS (also a man trans) that was my EDD.

I was fortunate and found another 2013 C6 427 Convertible. This one in Supersonic Blue. Of the 2552 427 convertibles made only 28 were this color...

C6-replacement.jpg

My GF replaced her BMW with a 2021 Lexus "Cute Ute" hybrid - suits her well.

The sales manager, where I bought the blue Vette, e-mailed me a link to an auction for a 2015 Chevy SS (6-spd M/T) that only had 7400 miles on it. I won that auction and that SS is one of only five 2015's with the same color and options.

The trench drain in front of the garage has been replaced with a massive 12" diameter one that should handle anything mother nature throws at it.

The basement is currently under re-construction - we threw out 30 cu yds of dumpster worth of ruined possessions - and should be finished by the end of the month.

BTW - I still have the black C4 and would like to sell it, if anyone is interested. Appx 72K miles. The picture above is a recent one, more available on request.

Looking forward to spring and a new season of cruises and Cars & Coffee.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Bob that was a heartbreaker to lose the white car, what a gorgeous color combo. You did really well with the blue one. I wish the C5s had more color options. I'm on the lookout for one now.

I used to have 20867S111669 (1962 Tuxedo Black), but I sold it 36 years ago and have regretted it for about that long. Almost sad that I can quote that VIN from memory but can't tell you who the pharisees or sadducees were!
