American Welding Society Certified Weld Inspector.

I'm thinking about taking the test...wondering if anybody here has taken it?

Thanks.

I certified as a QC-1 way back in 1977. At that time, AWS would certify with either the AWS test or the API test. I took the API test. Worked as an inspector for about a year and eventually let my certification lapse.(mistake..) Sorry, I have no idea of current certification requirements or procedures.

Hi Mick,

I did some weld inspection in an ASME code shop (pressure vessels), but I was only trained and qualified by the company (UTC-Carrier). I'd like to get an "official" certification. I called AWS and they are sending me the packet.

I know a little bit about API pipeline welding, but most of the welding I did was to ASME code...which is mostly uphill. I know that API allows downhand welding...that's a specialty...pipeline welding.

P.S. - 1977 was a good year! I graduated from high school and bought my first truck!

G-mac, although I certified by the API test, I never inspected a pipe weld. Worked in Montana with a very large Washington state company. Never figured out why we had a choice of tests. Montana was nice, but too far from home. I regret not re-newing my certification, pretty serious money being paid now. . Good luck to you. mick
